I have a Rem 700 SPS with a medium-contour barrel. I've been searching high and low for a good stock within my budget, and have come to like the Bell and Carlson varmint/tactical stocks. Problem is, that they are designed for the heavy contour barrels. Has anyone tried putting a medium-contour barrel into thse stocks? Or does anyone have any thoughts on this?

thanks!

I'd buy the sporter stock. It is easier to open up the barrel channel a little to fit a slightly larger barrel than try to fill in the gap of a stock channel that is too big. I've done this with several rifles. Putting the smaller barrel in a stock meant for a heavy barrel will work, but would probably not look as nice with a very large gap between stock and barrel.

I have the SPS VS with B&C Medalist stock. Great stock and it cut the group sizes down considerably.

But mine is a heavy barrel while yours isn't. Give B&C a call and see what they say. I found them very easy to deal with and spent a good amount of time on the phone with them till I decided what I wanted. They are very knowledgeable.

I called Stocky's Stocks about this matter a year ago. I have a Weatherby Mark V in .300 Win Mag. It is a #2 contour barrel (same as your rifle). I thought of having it re-barrled into a #3 barrel. They advised me to purchase a standard B&C Medalist stock, and when I re-barrel, to open the channel. I bought the standard stock.

Good luck, and I still would call them.
