Remington Bolt disassembly

1937 remington Sportmaster .22 Rifle - i have had a few FTF recently .
I cleaned the bolt internals- i will see if that fixes it on next trip to the range.

If not, how do you take the bolt apart (and get it back together)? See picture- it has two roll pins in the safety end of the bolt- take this end apart ? - replace if needed, firing pin and spring, then use a vice to help push it back together?

I have a Remington 22 rifle from the early 1930's. If you contact Remington they will send you a copy of the original owner's manual. In my case it included tear down instructions. If you go to the Remington website you will find a link there to obtain this information. Good luck.

The man on the phone at Remington said that it (owners manual) had a parts list but no picture of how it all goes together.

What is the model number besides Sportsmaster? Numrich has lots of schematics on their site.

Its a model 341 sportmaster. made oct 1937. A simple gun but a hand me down

I have ordered the parts diagram - should be here in a day or two.

I was having an intermittant problem with the bolt being hard to close and traced it (I think) to a sticky extractor at the front of the bolt (gee where else!) and I took that roll pin out yesterday and cleaned the extractor up with sandpaper- seems ok now- it was hard to put back together as the extractor is trying to move under spring pressure and also hard to see if its lined up right for the roll pin, but I got it back together OK.
------ 2 nd problem I am having is failure to fire maybe 1 in 20 rounds. I am thinking or replacing the firing pin and spring as these parts are available now but may not be in say 10 years. Spring could probably be remade by hand by someone(??) but firing pin would be harder (I guess) .
a Question Look at my pix in the first post-
1. If I push out the two bolt roll pins is it a nightmare to get it back together or just normal?
2 and when the bolt comes out of the gun it is cocked I think,-do I leave it that way during initial disassembly?

IIRC, that is one pin that goes all the way through the bolt and acts as a cocking cam as well as keeping the bolt together. I THINK that if you just drive it out, the bolt will come apart. The spring is a bear. I used to use a drill press as a vise to compress the spring enough to put the bolt together.

BTW, I don't know how good my old memory is, so better watch carefully how that bolt comes apart so you can get it together.

i got the Numrich diagram - its really a parts list- not an assembly drawing. Not much good as an assembly drawing.
Also has several parts listed that are not in the diagram and several vice versa

For the failure to fire 1 in 20 rds., it could just be the ammunition. Try rotating the shell so that the firing pin strikes a different part of the rim. I've run into that problem many times with .22's. I've even had an entire box of .22 WMR's that would not fire in my .22 revolver. I had a box of shorts, and everything was fine. Switched brands of ammo and have not had a problem since.
.22 ammo is cheap and fun to shoot, but you get what you pay for.
