Resident carrying with another states license?

I just got back from the DMV in TN (recent TN resident) to put in my CCW application. I am a current CCW holder in KY and the manager over at the DMV told me it was alright to carry with a KY license. I just wanted to check the validity of that statement and make sure a TN resident can carry on a KY license. Any help would be appreciated.

I know that Colorado changed their stance on the residency issue, and I believe they are one of the only ones that looks at it that way.

Varies by state but in Alabama if you are a resident of the state you must have an Alabama permit.

Tennessee law states "If a person with a handgun permit from another state decides to become a resident of Tennessee, such person must obtain a Tennessee handgun permit within six (6) months of establishing residency in Tennessee."

"the manager over at the DMV told me it was alright to carry with a KY license."

That's nice of them, and they may be right, but that won't keep you out of jail if the manager is wrong.

There are 2 important questions for you:
1) Does TN honor a KY concealed carry license? (pretty sure they do, but check one of the aforementioned sites to be sure).
2) Does KY continue to recognize your concealed carry licensce now that you are a non-resident?

When I moved TN to NC, I emailed the attorney general to find out if I could keep my TN permit. It only took 8 weeks to get a response (it is the goverment ya know), who told me they would honor the TN permit, the question was if TN would still honor it since I was no longer a resident.

I ended up just getting the NC CC permit just to be safe, and ease handgun purchases since NC CCP holders don't need a pistol permit for each pistol (Don't even get me started on that :fire:)

I vaguely remember reading somewhere about someone with a permit who moved to TN, maybe from AR, and paid the "renewal fee" and got a TN permit without going through class and full application process. Don't quote me on that one though...

You need to check the laws in Tennessee.

I am a Georgia resident. Georgia honors Florida CCW licenses. However, a Georgia resident must have a Georgia permit to carry in Georgia.

So, a Georgia resident cannot legally carried concealed in Georgia with a Florida non-resident permit.

The weird thing is that a resident of another state, say Tennessee, that has a Florida non-resident CCW can carry in Georgia with that, despite the fact that a Georgia resident could not do the same.

REB got it right, check the current reciprocity agreement and see who honors your Ky permit, also check Tn carry laws. You must follow the laws of the state where you are carrying regardless of what state issued your carry permit.
