Revolver Options in .45acp

My 625JM is easily the most accurate .45 handgun I have ever fired, I love it. But I really want a 1917 Classic.

I have had it for about 8 months. Like I said I have never tried it but you use one for the 45 colt and 410 and the other shoots 45 acp.

Sorry everybody. I am stupid. I just looked in my box and they are moon clips. The store I bought it from told me all you have to do is change them out. I have never looked in the box. Got me some extra moon clips now for another gun of mine though.

Sadly I am selling a great one to a buddy now because me and the wife need extra cash. I am selling him my beloved S&W 325 Night Guard, love the thing and the way S&W set them up for SD/CC.

I vote for the Ruger, convertible. Sure once you shoot up all your reloads, you may not shoot many more 45acps, but you will always have that as an option.

It's not like he is going to lose money on a Ruger Convertable. I haven't seen many that were in like new condition for less than $450. One of the reasons I am considering the .357/9mm convertible.

I have an S&W Model 1955 Target (Model 25 in 45 ACP only) with a 6" barrel. I love this gun.

So do I. This revolver reflects the attention in terms of fit and finish given to handguns from gunmakers in an era that will, sadly, never be seen again. The good news is that these classics from yesteryear can still be found at affordable prices-but, as time goes on, they will be harder and harder to find, and much pricier when you do. My advice is to get them while they're still gettable.

The large frame Blackhawk convertible would be a good choice but the Lipsey's convertible mid-frame flat-top is very tempting. As is the New Vaquero. Not every needs "Ruger only" capability out of their .45's and the mid-frame is much more appropriate for the ACP.

bdb benzino,

When you get better funded, you could always replace that 325 Night Guard with a similar revolver, construction wise: black Al/Sc frame, black SS cylinder, SS 2.75" barrel liner, fixed rear sight, dovetail front tritium Night Sight, etc, and only 7/8" longer OAL and <1.4 oz heavier. Yeah, I am referring to the Governor. It'll chamber and fire .45 ACP and GAP - only if moonclipped, .45 Colt and .45 Schofield (If you can find them!), and 2.5" .410 shotgun shells. Did I mention that, at $579 when I bought mine 6/11, it was over $300 lower than the best 325NG price I could find! It made my mind up for night stand use with .45 ACPs, as I keep >240 loaded moonclips, mostly 230gr FMJ ball ammo, but some 255gr LSWCs, too - and, previously, just a 4" 625JM to load them into. Literally, it was my least expensive .45 ACP choice.

Another great reason to select a Governor over a 325NG - the entire Night Guard series is currently 'out of production' - none are even present in the 2012 S&W Product Catalog.

Stainz

PS I'll admit it - I bought several boxes of .410s that first week - none since - still have ~half left - they are 'fun' on occasion. My .45 ACP ball ammo and 250gr Gold Dot or 255gr LSWC in .45 Colt homebrews hit close to coincident POI/POA from 7-12 yd - good enough for self defense. It's Z-frame is actually a K/L gripframe, so everything from a K/L frame boot grip to the X-frame .500 Magnum grips will fit it, too (Round butt!).

I would suggest the S&W 625 if you are into modern stuff. It is factorty cut for moon clips and is insanely accurate if you do your part. I had a trigger job done on mine for use in USPSA and IDPA. The revolver is however perfectly acceptable out of the box!
