I hope they're donating all proceeds to the families that lost loved ones. Otherwise, it's just another over-priced RRA rifle...

Bri,

what did you end up buying? $1011 seems like a good price point for a first AR...for me anyway. I'm not too picky though.

I went with a spikes mid-length. I bought when they were running 10% off for arfcom members but standard price was still very reasonable at around $800.

I just sent an e-mail asking to which charities, if any, the proceeds are being donated. I'm curious to see what the response is.

What makes RRA rifles inferior? Just curious, as they seem like a reputable company and make all their parts here in America

They are known for cutting a lot or corners. 1/9 barrel twist instead of 1/7. They don't bother to mill down the barrel so it is heavy as hell. Instead of using proper M4 feed ramps they put the gun together and then take a dremel to the ramps which leaves unfinished metal exposed. They don't HP/MPI individual barrels and bolts, and they don't chrome line their barrels.

Add to this a few other things they do and don't do and you have a gun without any reason to purchase it. And all that for the same price as a much better gun.

The only problem with them is that after being exposed to a lighter flame for a few hours, they melt into a pool of slag.

Run the bejeezus out of all my ARs (3 gun, target, hunting, etc). I have Colts, RRAs, Stags, S&Ws.

The RRAs have never let me down.....thousands and thousands of rounds. Of course none of the others have either.

RRAs 9mm carbine is a hoot also.

You can find RRAs certainly south of $1K.

RRA ARs are known for accuracy. They offer chrome lined barrels on some models, but the more accurate guns don't have lined barrels. The 1/9 twist rate also enables the barrel to last longer than a 1/7. A 1/7 twist with a non chrome lined barrel is a recipe for a short barrel life.

S&W and LWRC use black nitride to increase barrel life without compromising accuracy. S&W is also using gain twist rifling. On top of that S&W properly stakes carrier keys, stakes RE castle nuts, cuts M4 feed ramps prior to finishing, and uses individually HPT/MPI bolts. They cost the same or less than RRA rifles.

I agree it is exploitation IF they don't donate a large percentage of profits to charity. I'm sure they will, as RRA is a good company.

I know RRA is a reputable company and have heard a lot more good than bad so I'm sure they will be donating some of the proceeds.

Opinions are like...noses... - everyone has one.

I find that opinions on guns are no different - one guy thinks RRA is the best thing he's ever owned, while another says the quality is lacking.

What would you guys suggest for a first time AR-15 purchase? I am not trying to get all tacticool with it, although I will be adding optics. I just want a fun gun to plink with and maybe to take hog hunting.

Are there any RRA owners in here that DON'T like their rifle or are unhappy with their purchase?

o_O What?

You are making this assumption on what?

Opinions are like A**holes - everyone has one.

Wow there is a great argument for your cause

The level of experience of the people giving those opinions matters. I am willing to bet that the people who don't like RRA have a lot more trigger time than those that do.

Something that doesn't cut more corners than a kid doing an art project.

Owned one, hated it. Sold it as fast as I could. Only gun I have ever had where the mags would fall out when firing.

very popular rifles in high power service rifle competition.

they make very nice dcm class rifles.

Many of the naysayers are commando wannabes. RRA and Stag are two good mid level AR15 makers. The guns are good for anything that the average person will use it for. If you want Mil-Spec, look elsewhere though.

EDIT: commando wannabes is not meant as an insult. It means the guys who shoot and train like they are in the special forces and expect their guns to be able to go to hell and back.

If I was a car dealer for brand X and I told you: "Mr. Blue, since you're an average guy, and not a race car driver wannabe, you'll love brand X. We don't tighten any bolts with torque wrenches at the factory, we just hand tighten everything to whatever the individual mechanic feels is good. Now, if you're a race car driver wannabe, you can go get a sedan across the street from brand Y. They assemble their engines, and even their door hinge screws with torque wrenches, and tighten them all to specific values. They cost the same as the sedans here at brand X, but why would want to buy from them?" Would you buy a car from me?

Rra 9/11

I'm down with the 9/11 comm rifle. But I put my money on a Colt because
I wanted the side of my rifle to say LEO restricted on the side.
