I went to the range today was shooting various types and calibers, I had shot a dozen rounds of factory load 180 grain .357mags thru my Rossi M877 which from what I know of this gun has not had more than 200 rounds thru it.
last shot was pretty explosive and I saw something eject which I thought was strange since it was a revolver I looked at the weapon and realized the barrel blew off...yikes guess I was pretty lucky ? now I have a gun with no barrel 3 live rounds in it and its cocked.. cant not uncock unload I need to remove the firing pin I guess in order to destroy this thing anyone have any ideas?? its a shame I really liked this thing:cuss:

Sounds like a bullet stuck in the barrel and then a second one blew it up. Better have the rest of that ammo broke down.

I am very happy ! counted all my fingers.. myself and a couple of LEOs went out on the range and found the barrel dammed if I know what happened and many peeps agreed have never seen that before..yikes :what: I will post a pic when I remember how

Looks like the barrel was torqued too tight during installation, cracked, and has been waiting to let go since.

Yeah, that's weird. It looks like a really clean break. If it went kaboom because of a barrel obstruction I'd expect to see twisted metal.

Good Lord! I've never seen anything like it. How are the barrels attached on Rossis (not very well by the looks of it). Are they screwed in like S&W revolvers. It looks like it just sheared off.

As far as a bullet stuck in the barrel, there is no sign of that in either piece now,and It seems that the shells in the cyinder are in tact ?

If there had been a bullet stuck in the barrel, there would most likely be a bulge where the second one swaged into it from the rear. Also, with that 2" .357, if you'd have had a squib load, you sure should have noticed that. Them snubby .357's really snort and if you'd had a light load or just a primer pop to stick a bullet, it would have been immediately obvious to just about anyone.

I'd bet it was a stress crack right where the threaded portion meets the barrel shroud. Call Rossi (I think Taurus owns them now) and get them to take care of their obvious manufacturing defect. Take lots more pictures to document it, and make sure you get them in good focus. The one you posted is a little fuzzy so hard to see. If you have to, get a friend with a camera that has close up (macro) capability and get some real sharp, high resolution photos before you even consent to send it back. That way you'll have something to prove your point if they try to waffle out of it.

WOW

the threaded part of barrel is still in the frame right??I hope it is not a gun from FI as the distributor wont honor any thing he did not sell.
:rolleyes::uhoh:

Looks like you got one of those new Rossi Super Snubs:what:. Stick a front sight on it and have at it.:D

JUST KIDDING! Definently don't try that. It's possible nothing would happen, but it ain't worth the risk.

Definently contact Rossi. I'd guess that they'll be more than happy to help you.

Well, what are you going to do? My guess is that Rossi could put another barrel in and have it back to you within a few weeks. Before it goes, though, I'd love to see a better photo, especially of where the barrel goes into the frame.

This morning I woke up still worrying about this thing sitting here loaded and was able to manipulate the trigger down carefully and unload this thing...spent casings are in good shape (3) I think trigger and cylinder were dislodged enough to make things difficult, now for the games to beging with customer service, have to wait until Monday I guess and I can not find any email addys to contact Rossi just phone. thanks to all for help

They have a lifetime warranty. I'd call 'em. They'll make it right.

I've seen a Ruger, a Taurus, and a Smith with a barrel detachment on net pictures/threads. This one does look like the frame might have been cracked. Worst that's ever happened to me or anyone I personally know is my M10 cracked a forcing cone once. Hell, THAT ruined my range trip. Losing a barrel would be a bit worse. LOL

From what I can remember, from posts on this same issue (barrel seperation). on other forums, all of the barrel seperations happened with factory ammo...anybody know anything about that?
