You hear tails of lousy customer service all the time on the web, so I figured I would report something good for once.

I bought a new Redhawk .480 from cdnn sports a couple weeks ago for an excellent price. The gun arrived in a very HANDLED condition. Lock up wasn't the greatest, and it had a problem with the action being very difficult to turn over two of the chambers.

I called cdnn who gave me three options;

send the gun back and they would send me a different one, but I would have another ffl transfer fee to pay

or send it back and get my money back

or Call ruger.

I took option 3, As cosmetically the gun was fine. Despite this particular model being out of production for quite some time, Ruger was very helpful. They scheduled UPS to pick the gun up the next business day no cost to me. They called the day they received the gun explaining what had ALREADY been done to fix the gun and answer any questions I might have had and inform me it would be sent back to me the next business day. They did just that, second day air no less. I got it back today, fixed, functioning flawlessly with a excellent bank-vault lock up now, a surprisingly smooth trigger pull and crisp single action trigger. I couldn't be more pleased. Every manufacture lets out a few problems so I don't hold that against them, and they fixed the problem better and faster than I ever expected.

+1 for RUGER:D

Here she is:

Some 30 years ago, I bought a new Single Six .22/.22 mag. The cylinder for the .22 mag had a couple of cylinder holes, not drilled perfectly inline when firing. On the 4th round fired, the bullet struck the forcing cone edge, blowing the cylinder apart at that hole, jamming things up pretty bad. Took to SGS, they sent to Ruger, about a month went by, SGS called and said new revolver was in. Ruger never questioned what transpired, admitted it was their fault, sent new firearm and a coupon for $50 worth of ammo from SGS. Glad to hear their customer service is still on top of things. Shoot safely!!

I bought a single-six less than a month ago that had an extractor rod problem. I called Ruger
and got to a person to solve my problem with no waiting while listening to canned music. I had
a new extractor rod in a little over a week.

Ruger Customer Service

In May I walked into a local gun shop and in door range. Sitting in the display case was...

rugeralaskancylindersbi-1.jpg

This beast. A stainless Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in 44 Mag. with a 2.5 inch barrel. I've been a big fan of the Blackhawks and Redhawks since I bumped into them in North Dakota back in the 80's. Anyway it followed me home.

I disassembled her and cleaned her up real good and the next weekend. Getting that trigger guard assembly on and off was a real bear. So I put about a hundred rounds through her.

Double action was really rough and the trigger pull felt un even. When I got home and disassembled her I noticed that the Hammer has arc like scratches, which indicates that the hammer has been dragging on the frame. This reduces hammer thrust and prevents the hammer from seating with the trigger exactly the same for each shot. I’d bet measuring the S.A. Trigger pull would have shown different pull weights.

I called Ruger Customer Service in New Haven and explained my problem.

They gave me a UPS pickup number. I boxed her up and when UPS arrived sent her off to the mothership.

I enclosed a letter as asked them to measure the gap between and determine the slack and adjust correct this problem. I don’t want to shim this hammer.

I asked if they could check the frame mating surface beneath the trigger/latch spring to ease the pressure required to release and replace the trigger guard assembly. I also wanted like the lower, inner back surface area of the frame (Where the trigger guard mates with the frame) checked for size, burrs and excess surface metal to reduce the frame.

So off she went. Customer Service called me after they got her. They kept her in the shop for two weeks. The Gun Smith called me once to let me know how it was going. They then sent her back.

They had done a complete hammer and trigger job and tuned her up nicely. I took her to the range and she performed flawlessly. Getting that trigger guard off though is still difficult but the main problems were resolved.

Ruger makes and sells a lot of stuff and like any company there are going to be problems. I also have a Ruger LCP in .380 caliber. The people in Arizona have been great in sending me replacement parts, as needed.

I own several Colts, S&Ws and have a few problems in the past. But have always managed to get things straightened out. I've had a few bad moments with some Customer Service Reps but I have found that if I call back later and get another Rep things get straight.

This mimics my experience with Ruger's customer service. I'd buy another Ruger again any day.

Hello all, RON L here

I to, have had excellent Customer Servoce with Ruger firearms inthe decades that I have been a shooter! What I will not Give then Flowing marks for is thier PARTS SALES POLICY! I k=like to stock and have critical parts for my firearms and Ruger while they will pay for the return, fix the weapon and do what they should WILL NOT SELL MOST CRITICAL parts one needs to support ones weapon? Try looking in the Instruction manual that ruger always supplies, see the red Stars or Astric's denoting what they WILL NOT SELL YOU, those that MUST BE REPLACED BY the FACTORY and NOT ALLOWED FOR SALE! I give them CREDIT where credit is DUE but Penalties on what they DON'T DO SO WELL! I'm happy to report they will now sel Ruger Mini-14 20 and 30 rnd magazines they refused to sell for years? That goes far from making up for thier currect parts policy that I keep in the back of my mind each time I say I want to buy another Ruger?

By my name not a big Ruger fan. Handguns at least. l have had one contact w/customer service there. My pa- in- law had a 10 1/2 SBH many years ago he overloaded w/unique pdr. lnstead of 11.8u/240gr swc he loaded 18.1u/240swc. 0n the third shot the ejector rod plus housing departed the pistol. An obvious mistake in OVERLOADING. He simply boxed up gun and sent it to Ruger wo comment. A few weeks later it was repaired and returned. No cost to him.Never shot the gun again. He traded it shortly after for a 7 1/2" SBH. Sadly he passed away a few months later. Never getting to enjoy his new SBH. Couple years passed l dropped by the gunshop where he had traded it in and saw the old 10 1/2. Nostalgic me took the old gun home and began shooting it regularly. l shot it along w/my Smith 29 quite a few years in IHMSA. l traded it for something else after a few years, preferring S&W over Rugers.0ne question still goes thru my mind tho,"Just how much pressure does a 50% overloaded Unique 44mag load generate?" That one will remain forever unanswered as far as l am concerned. But lt does make me wonder.

...explaining what had ALREADY been done to fix the gun...

Do you mean the gun had already been sent in once before? If so what had been done the first time to fix the gun.

When I got my Blackhawk back from them they listed all the parts that had been replaced and what they had done. Did they do this with your gun and if so could you post what was done and replaced?

they sent a note saying the paul had been repaired. When i said already, i meant that they had already fixed it before they had called, not that i sent it in twice. thought it was impressive to have them fix the gun immediately upon arrival to the factory

Not bashing Ruger by any means, I really like Ruger firearms and have had good customer service from them. Recently though it seem like their quality control has been left up to the consumer.

I have always heard good things about Ruger's CS.
You do realize though that your gun is a Super Redhawk, not a Redhawk. Completely different revolver.

Congrats an a nice gun.

Yup, Ruger CS is first rate!

While disassembling my SP101 for cleaning, a spring popped out of the trigger mechanism.
I called Ruger CS (late in the evening - left a message for them to call me back)
In the mean time I found an exploded view & saw where the spring came from & fixed it.

Sure enough the next morning Ruger called me back - I was able to tell them I fixed it.
But I was impressed that called back the next morning.

yes my apologies, i thought that would be common knowledge since they never made a Redhawk in 480. typing left handed and taking shortcuts when i can. broken hands suck.

I search for abused Rugers at gun shows. Send them in, get back a virtually new gun, most often refinished. Send in for repairs, they refinish (or at least they did), no cost. Send in for refinish, they do it for a fee and fix anything they find. Normally include a new box, too.
