S&W Good Deal???????

Have a chance to buy a 125th year anniversary S&W 45 long colt. The box is still in the shipping box, neither has ever been opened. $500.00 can't seem to find out very much about them. Any input??????

Go get it, now. The SCSW 3rd ed says ANIB $500. Believe me you'll get a lot more for it if NIB. The value listed for the plain 25 is $725 which is closer to reality. Joe

That's a good gun at a great price. It does have the early short cylinder, so ammo with bullets longer than the standard 255 grain, may be too long.

Average price the Blue Book of Guns latest edition #28 lists the 125th Anniversary Commemorative .45 LC cal plain variation was called 25-3, 10,000 manufactured in 1977, cased with niclel silver medallion, and leather bound "History of Smity & Wesson" book by Roy Jinks.

You can't touch that gun around here for less than $900, and sometimes more. It should be pinned and recessed, and the blue book seems low on Colts and S&W vintage stuff. P&R Model 27s are $800 around here and Oregon and AZ, where ever I've gone, that at least $250 higer than the Bluebook. Also I wish I could find those $750 95% Pythons they list!

Well, it's been a day...DID YOU BUY IT? At roughly half price I sure hope you did. Even if you don't want it buy it anyway and resell it on Gunbroker, or the S&W forum.

That is a very good deal and a gun like that will only increase in value over time.

If you pass on it you will be telling this story for the rest on your life. (fast forward 15 years) "Oh, back in 2007 I had a chance to buy that 125th Anniversary Commemorative for $500 NIB, now you can't touch one NIB for under $2,000" or something along those lines...

The only problem with realizing these great values is that you will have to leave it "untouched" in the box. No fondling or =shudder= shooting.

I would buy it, and agree with the above posts, except the cylinders on non-magnum centerfire S&W's are not recessed. The cylinder throats are usually a bit larger than the bore diameter on these "-3's", a problem corrected on later S&W 25's. Some people have reported problems with accuracy because of that, some don't - mine shoots great. It's the one on the left in this group of .45's:

That is true, but on really good deals like this I wouldn't worry about losing a little value by shooting it.
