Mcgunner is right I purchased a 638 a few years back the shot 12" to the right at 20 yds. The dealer gave me the usual BS about belly guns so I shot a 6 round group in front of him. He sent it back to Smith and it shoots very good. Had good service from S&W the dealerships is where the static lie's.

I'd also look for a used M-10. S&W has made (literally) millions of them, and most are still in service, or for sale at VERY reasonable prices. I was issued one a few years back that was made in 1961, was missing about half its finish, and looked pretty rough. Lord only knows how many rounds had gone through it before I got it. I tend to practice with my duty gun as much as I can, and I started reloading for it immediately. Then I developed a serious addiction to shooting bowling pins, back when I had a nearly unlimited supply of them. In one year alone, I shot 30,000 +P loads through that gun, and more than 68,000 over five years. All were 158-grain plated bullets over a stiff charge (not sanctioned) of WST. The gun was just as tight, and a lot slicker, when I turned it back in last December.

I'm looking for another gun just like it. Nothing against the new guns, but for the money, a used M-10 is about as good as it gets.

M&Ps abound. I sold a 6" nickel example for $140 a few months ago. About a year ago I was at a local show and saw a 2" M&P on a table. I walked away with it for $210 and thought it was a fair deal. About 3 months later at the same show location I found a twin, shipped the same year (1949) for $200.

Here they are.

I bought a new 2" 10-ll no-lock, made 1/03, in 9/03 - from CDNN - new closeout $279! Super deal. My wife insists it's her gun - totes it as a car gun - +P 158gr LHPSWCs, of course. I just bought a 4" 627 Pro 8-shooter - and wanted a 4" 10 - preferred SS (64). Friday a week back, yep, the thirteenth, found me buying this 'used' 4" 64-8, actually an un-shot security trade, for $327 inc s/t. You betcha it's got an IL - and MIM parts - and two-piece barrel - and a 5/05 dated shot case - it's new! Now it has a Wolff regular hammer leaf and 13# trigger return - and a broken-in trigger that is super - and slick. After several other Ahrends wood grips, the OEM UM's square conv Combats are back on it. Great house gun - and plinker. It clearly states '.38 S&W Special +P' on the barrel. A call to S&W revealled it is calibrated to 158gr +P for elevation at 25yd. Fun plinker - dependable house gun.

Here it is with my 642-2:

The pusher, Southeastern Guns in Birmingham, AL, still had one more Friday evening. Oh yeah, I've bought nine IL-equipped S&Ws over the years now - never a problem.
