S&W Model 19 Price?

Hello Everybody,

This is my first post. I Know someone at work that wants to sell a S&W model 19 3" barrel Nickel finish revolver that he received when his father passed away. I don't know why he wouldn't keep it its in mint condition. He doesn't know what he wants for it. What would be a good price to offer him. He's looking for some bucks and I'm looking for a good deal. He also has a Ruger Mark II 22 in mint condition that I'm interested in so I would make an offer for both. Anyone here that could advise? Thanks in advance Dan.

$350 for the Ruger and $400 for the 19, Those are high but would be about right for pristine items. Double check the 19 and the barrel length, I know of no 3" nickle let alone that 3" blued are real scarce, it probably is a 4"

Price will vary greatly depending upon what kind of shape the gun is in and locality. Around here, a Model 19 in very good condition will run $500 plus. Also, check your barrel length and see if it's not really 2 1/2 inches.

The gun is probably a 2.5 inch as they are common where the 3 inch models are extremely rare. If it really is a 3 inch it is worth almost twice as much as the 2.5 or 4 inch models.

Measure the Model 19 barrel from the cylinder face to the muzzle, not from the frame to the muzzle. Chances are, it's a four incher. Assuming the revolver is pinned and recessed, an offer between $300 and $400 would be fair to your friend.

As for the Ruger MKII, barrel type and length, sights, as well as whether it is stainless or blued make a bit of difference in the price, but not a whole lot. Between $150 and $200 is generally a fair offer. If it's a MKII Government or a Hunter, offer a bit more.

These offers will no doubt be more than he will receive at a pawn shop or gun store. They will secure the deal for you, and more importantly, preserve the friendship.

M19's around here go for anywhere between $350 and $400.

At the local gunshow today, I saw several shooter grade blue 4" M19's tagged for $325. Most had S&W wood target grips.
Any of em would've went for $300, maybe even less. Some were P&R, some weren't.

I would suggest "starting" closer to the lower end
of his price ranges.

Its not uncommon too see prisitne S&W model 19's in 98%+ condition
in the original box, and with all docs going for from between $450-
500 in my area; especially the ones with "TripleT's" (target Goncalo
Alves grips, and target hammer and trigger)~!

I just picked up a nickel 4" bbl model 19 in the box for $300 and earlier in the year I picked up an NRA endowment William Ruger commemerative MK II for $250. I felt that I got a decent deal on both.

Oh, and check the forcing cone at 6:00 very carefully for cracks on the Model 19

Yes, even though it may seem new, take a look at the forcing cone for cracks. It is the thing that is between the cylinder and the barrel.

Anything under $400 would be a bargain in my area for the Model 19.

Depends on the Mark II. If it has the pencil barrel, I'd offer $250 max. If it has a bull barrel, then I'd go $300.

Thanks everybody for the replies. I went over to see the guns today. You were right Brian the model 19 was a 4" barrel. And yes XavierBreath he measured it from the frame to the muzzle. I couldn't believe the condition of both guns. The S&W didn't have a scratch on it. It doesn't look like it was shot very much if at all. It has the S&W wood grips (smooth) not checkered with the diamond shape where the screw goes, again just mint. The Ruger Mark II Target also had a 4" barrel and blued finish. Again not a scratch anywhere. Doesn't look like this was ever shot either. Neither gun had it's original box but both came with a zipper case. I offered him $400 for both guns expecting him to counter back and he jumped on it. Then he threw in a army green gym bag with 4 boxes of winchester 357 ammo and 4 boxes of 22 long rifle not to mention cleaning kit and bag full of patches. I asked him why he was selling them and his reply was he didn't like guns in the house. He wasn't opposed to other people having them just not him. Go figure. Well lee n. field I told him I'd give them a good home. He just laughed. Thanks again everybody, you were all a great help. Dan

I just saw a *batch*, yes, a *batch* of model-19's in a local gun shop. They came out of S&W back inventory (within driving distance) and were NIB.

mid to high $400's. Looked like all 19-5+. No P, forget R.

question iam looking for original target grips for the s&w model 29 square butt. i wont buy or deal with E bay at all they are a bunch of thiefs period, does anyone have contacts on where or who would carry the original grips for this gun
