I have a really nice S&W Chief's Special (Model 36) made between 1957-1962 (most likely in 1960).

Is it "drop safe", having a trigger safety bar ?:)

Of course it is.

All S&W's made since late WWII are as drop safe as it gets.

(Assuming the hammer block safety bar is still in it.)

Look carefully down in front of the hammer as you slowly cock it and see if there is a flat U shaped metal peice sliding down from in front of the hammer face.

If there is, it's good to go.

Smith and Wesson changed over to Model Numbers (such as Model 10, Model 36, etc) in 1957.

So by default, any S&W with a Model number, will have the post WWII, modern hammer block in it, unless it was removed by somebody.

Yea but??

The pre-Model 36 Chiefs Special came out in 1950.

And every one since Serial #1 has the modern hammer block safety.

K-Frames also beginning in Dec 1944.
N-Frames beginning in 1945.
