Santa Fe Model 1947 Bolt Action

Today I picked up this gun in a shop - it was a a bolt action, monte carlo stock, beautiful wood, did not list a caliber anywhere on it, but from the action and barrel, it appeared to be a 30-06, even the shop did not know for sure, but they were listing it as such.
Santa Fe Model 1947 made in California.
Any info about this gun?? I wanted to buy it, but was not sure of it's value since I have never heard of it. 299.00

Santa Fe was the trade name for a series of sporterized MilSurps churned out by Golden State Arms. They made sporterized Enfields and Mausers and such. Given the chambering, it could be a Springfield '03 or 1917 Enfield or 98 Mauser.

Looked more like a Mauser to me. Had a nice Bushnell but older scope on it. This shop always comes way off their prices if I actually want to buy it & pay cash. I will see if I can get a pic.

$299 is pretty dear for a GSA-made MilSurp; I'd hope they'd come down on the price. Having said that - I've had a No1Mk3 that they sporterized, and they did a FINE job of it.

I have a Mk V Jungle carbine that they did an AMAZING job of . I paid $175 10 years ago , it has a Redfield peep sight and is highly polished and blued with a very nice Bubbaized military stock- AND a cut down (and blued and polishished) 5 round flush mag!

I picked up a SantaFe '03 a bunch of years ago.

All parts except the receiver are milsurp. Nice newish stock too.

The receiver looks different somehow than a genuine '03. Doesn't look as meaty.

hey rogmatt... unless they made a different caliber of the exact same model, its a 30-06. i have exactly what youre describing. mine looks like a mouser too but the safety lever is on the left side of the bolt when its closed as opposed to the right like a normal mouser bolt. dont know if my bolt is aftermarket or mine isnt a mouser but a model 1947 santa fe is 30-06

Santa Fe used Milsurp parts to build their rifles, when they ran out of Milsurp receivers they had cast receivers made. The cast receivers did not hold up to well, to say the least. They also put together a number of M-1 Garands and 03 Springfield's using this method. These will occasionally turn up at gun shows with the seller swearing they are honest to god military issue.

hey ron how does one tell the difference in military issue and fake on the garands... i was looking at getting one here in the not to distant future...
