It's legal in my home state of KY with a valid CCDW but can anyone point me to any OH stautes(preferably a link) on the carry of saps and blackjacks there? Thanks in advance:)

Ohio Revised Code 2923.12 Carrying concealed weapons.
(A) No person shall knowingly carry or have, concealed on the person's person or concealed ready at hand, any of the following:
(1) A deadly weapon other than a handgun;

ORC 2923.11 Weapons control definitions.
As used in sections 2923.11 to 2923.24 of the Revised Code:
(A) "Deadly weapon" means any instrument, device, or thing capable of inflicting death, and designed or specially adapted for use as a weapon, or possessed, carried, or used as a weapon.

In short, no, you can not carry a sap. Knives also fall under this provision. Case law allows that you may carry a knife as a tool, but if you carry one as a weapon, or if it is perceived as being primarily a weapon, you are in violation of the law. Unfortunately, this makes the law very subjective- what might be ignored in one jurisdiction will get you prosecuted in another. It would be prudent to avoid anything that either is actually a weapon (other than a handgun) or by its appearance, screams weapon, i.e. pointy "tactical pens", monkey fists, push daggers, etc. Most average sized folding knives don't get a second look as long as you aren't being an ass in public.

Also, state preemption only covers firearms, thus local law would also have to be considered.

One more thing. Though it is not directly addressed in the Revised Code, carrying OC spray is permitted and is supported by case law, I assume because it is not considered a deadly weapon.

See in Ky .We can carry and defend ourselves .In Ohio Your just another victim. One reason I left the sorry state years back. I carry my slapjack often . If headed for the 2 crime cities Louisville and Lexington. Or out late in my home area.
Nice to have a less lethal choice.

Most states not legal. Like many laws they don't make the most sense.
You can carry a gun, but in some states you can't carry mace, taser, mace... but you can carry the gun.

Makes tons of sense. I don't care to carry bat belt but should be allowed to have options if you want.

I know we are talking about Ohio, but I do think there are other states besides Kentucky that allow for carrying concealed other weapons that just a firearm with a permit. I thought I recall seeing a few posts here on THR about it. I don't have time right now to look up the states that have similar laws like KY.

Maybe legislation could be written to allow the same for Ohio too.
.

In Ohio, it's a Concealed HANDGUN License. It authorizes the carry of NOTHING else besides a concealed HANDGUN, and associated items.

Firearm laws are strictly preempted in Ohio. Knife laws are not. Any little podunk town can have its own knife laws.

It's easier to carry an AR pistol in Ohio than a lock blade knife.

Carrying a 3 1/2" M1911 every day here, I somehow manage NOT to feel like "just another victim".

You might run afoul of the "adapted" provision if you don't have a reasonable explanation for having it on you (pretty challenging to explain why you carry a large wrench or hammer around all the time). Context for having it is important.
