Today, the Academy Sports (TX) flyer is advertising a Sarsilmaz Hancer 9mm pistol on sale for $359.99. I think Academy Sports here in Houston carries two variations, the other being a 15+1 Kama sporting a longer barrel and vents toward the front of the frame.

I was wondering if anyone on the board had picked up one of these Turkish-made guns and how well the gun has performed for you thus far....

Here's a link to the company's website: http://www.sarsilmaz.com/eng/urun_alt.php?id=21

Sarsilmaz is building their CZ-75 knockoff for Armalite too, reviews have been good. The Kama, if I'm correct features a slide mount decocker, while the Hancer has standard CZ75 safety.

Well, I decided to take the plunge and picked up the 9mm. Though quite compact (13 round mags) and comfortable in my hand, the gun is actually quite heavy being all steel. It reminds me of the CZ-75 PCR. Fit and finish seem to be excellent. I'll give it a test run this weekend and will let you how it performs.

Really looking forward to your range report. Although I was tempted to buy one myself I wanted to give them a bit of time before I also took the plung. If my local Academy Sports would have had one with a lower serial number it would have been impossible to hold back.

Now if Academy starts selling the Kilinc 2000 Professional I'll be all over it! I haven't seen anything about a warranty on it though....have you?

Clone of a clone. Sarsilmaz was originally listed by Tanfoglio as a distributer, then moved into thier own manufacturing. Now the clone of a clone is coming in the US as Armalite, and under it's own name.
Don't think this means it is a bad sidearm, by any means. Sarsilmaz had an interesting torture test ala Glock with one of thier early pistols, and it passed quite handily. The CZ-75 based Sarsilmaz is apparently quite a fine firearm, and Turkey has had an extensive quality firearms industry for some time.
They have some engraved models that are quite attractive.

I looked at the Kama and Hancer again today at Academy. As others have mentioned, Acadamy LLC Katy, TX is stamped in the side of the gun.

The Hancer looks the best to me, somewhat like a CZ PCR, but the grips are really wide.

Ok, I've just returned from the range where I tried out Academy's Turkish 9mm.

I fired 150 rounds (S&B, Ingman, and Wolf) in all and experienced two FTFs with the wolf ammo. S&B and Ingman fed without the slightest problem. Accuracy was similar with all three brands.

I imagine that the trigger will become smoother with more practice. The trigger has some slight creep in single action mode. All in all, I'm very pleased with the Hancer.

Below is a picture of my shots at 15 yards.

Sorry, I had some trouble adding it. The 10.1 resolution made the photo too large (3.5MB), so I had to figure out how to compress it. It's there now.

I know this is an old thread, but I just purchased a Hancer 2000 9mm from Academy. Put 200 rounds of cheap ammo through it without a single problem. Very accurate at 10 yds or less. Didn't try greater distances. Materials, construction, fit and finish are all excellent. Rubber grips feel good in my hand. Trigger action is smooth and effective. Field strips very simply. Overall, a highy capable firearm that compares very favorably with much higher priced models.

If it's anything like my Stoeger Cougar (Turkish made), I would say you got a great deal. I still really want an all steel CZ SP01 non-decocker model. I figure it to be a really fast shooter with hot 9mm ammo, kinda like a super hi-cap 9mm 1911 SA/condition 1 capable service auto that also has second strike capability.

My Stoeger Cougar rocks with hot 9mms. Turkey arms manufacturers have shown the capacity to produce some really nice guns for bargain prices in recent years.

I have the AR-24. It is very well made, and the quality is high. I prefer it to a CZ.

i got the KAMA the day after christmas for $250 clearance ($50) taken off from a gift card. finish fit and feel are excellent! been researching it for about a year and am glad to have made the purchase. I shot it two days ago and the trigger is smooth and trhe cycling of the slide and rounds is smooth great gun well made groups well firt mag i shot held a 2 inch group at 15'

i would trust my life to it

I highly advise to test fire a Stoeger Cougar 8000F. I had the opportunity to experience it in a range around 150 rounds. No single failure at all and quite good shooter with its rotated barrel. As per the range guys tolds, it had over 35.000 rounds shooted without any failure.
Cheers,

Soooo... What type of holster is everyone using and what type of pistol do the Sarsilmaz cross reference to when you order a holster?

Just bought one too, after watching the remaining stock at the local stores beginnning to disappear. Academy has been marking the clearance price down several times already. Both Hancer and Kama are now $278+tx. I really wanted to like the Kama, which I couldn't find an exact same model on Sarsilmaz's website. The closest I could find is the P8S, but it has a top-vented barrel & slide whereas the Kama does not.

I went with the Hancer because it simply felt better in my hands. I am pretty sure it's the same as the K10C on Sarsilmaz's website.

The after-sale support does bother me some - now that Academy is quitting the line - but Briley's local to me, so I figure it's worth a gamble at that price.

The fit&finish - where it matters - is as good as most pistols south of $800. The slide rails felt smooth and precise. There are some internal non-mating surfaces that are somewhat rough and show machining marks, but that's just cosmetics. And none of the letterings were lasered or fancy etched.

Even though I do own polymer guns, there is something gratifying about an all-metal gun. Especially steel, which makes that unique bright klanking sound when you rack & release the slide, that even aluminum frame can't quite match.

Probably not ideal for carry, but I have a feeling this one will see a lot more range time than all my other pistols, with the exception of the Buckmark 22.

BTW, tried the magazine from the $699 CZ75 at the store, and it fits well, but does stick out a bit. Other online owners reported CZ 9mm 15-rd mags working flawlessly with the Sarsilmaz, So I am not too worried about finding extra mags.

Bought a Mec-gar CZ 75 Compact 9mm 14rd, and it cycles rounds just fine in the Hancer 2000. Haven't made it to range yet. It is about the same length as the stock Sarsilmaz 13rd mags, but because it has just a plain steel base plate, it does leave about 1/4" gap. I am sure I can fashion some kind of a filler to take up the gap, if I ever feel the need to. For now, if it works well enough for target use, I'll be happy already.

Just came back from shooting the Hancer 2000 for the first time at the range. Couldn't get the gun to fire at first. Squeeze the trigger, hammer falls, but no bang. Cycle the slide and found no strike mark on the primer cap. Push the firing pin and it does stick out and spring back properly.

I then reinserted the loaded mag and tried it again. Still no bang. This time I pulled the trigger again - in DA mode - and BANG! Pulled the trigger again (in SA mode) and no bang. It would reliably fire in DA mode, but not in SA mode. I fire off some 50 rds, and then occasionally the Hancer would fire in SA. That's when it dawned on me that Doh!!! I should've cleaned it thoroughly first before bringing it to the range. It was probably all that cosmoline or grease that made the firing pin move sluggishly at first.

By the end of the 100rds, it was firing on SA every time.
