weaver side mount. older gun stores might have one. there are two lengths of rings/mount. one is closer than the others. only a smaller older style scope will fit. 32mm or less. that and the up and down adjustments must not go around the whole tube. I have a scopechief on one and a weaver k4 anniversary scope on the other. the bolt handle is the problem.
......a older banner is another good choice,,,hth!

Check Numrich Arms, (gunpartscorp.com) they have plenty of spare parts and accessories for the 340 series. Last time I looked they had mounts... as long as your receiver is drilled (mine is not, unfortunately.)
I think Brownells or Optics Plant carries them as well. You can also find them on eBay.
I'd also look at spare magazines... around $35, not a bad deal.

Yes. I'm with diselchief. I could buy a Ruger American but I'm just not interested. I've already got a nice 30-06 scoped hunting rifle so that need is already filled.

It will be a lot of fun working with my J.C. Penney Foremost 6400, IMHO. I ordered a Williams aperture sight and am now toying around with possibly scoping it as well (got an Amazon gift card from my son!) Anyone have recommendations about the best scope mount for these rifles?

I have a scope mount that i got from Midway, http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/14...s,+Mounting+&+Accessories-_-B-Square-_-146614. You will need to drill/tap the side of the receiver and notch out the stock to clear the side mount scope mount.. I bought a brand new stock from Gunville Gun Stocks for mine so I could keep my original as is, and notch out the new one. I have yet to mount the scope mount or finish the new stock and install it. The rifle shoots so nice as is, i'm leaving it alone. Its one of my best shooting rifles.

Thanks for all the helpful info. I'll look into it more after my knee operation tomorrow - I should have some time to check stuf out while sitting around after they repair the meniscus in my right knee.
