I have a Bright Stainless Steel Colt Special Lady SF-VI Revolver, double action with a spurless hammer. I bought it new in 1996 for protection and only fired it about 10 times the day I bought it for target practice. It has remained untouched since that day in the blue case it came in and all the manuals are in the case.

It is a beautiful gun (that's why I bought it) :p and it is in Mint Condition. I was wondering how much it might be worth because I am thinking about selling it.

All I have been able to find out is that it was made only in 1996 and actual production was very low.

Please Help!

I've attached a photo!

Limited Colts are going crazy... I'd find a gun shop that does online auctions, consign it and start the bidding at $600.

I'd imagine a sell price of $6-800. But only because it's a limited custom shop item.

I don't think very many of those were made at all. Just how few I am unsure, but no doubt dfariswheel will be along soon to educate us on the history and numbers. It's probably worth close to $800...more of course if were unfired.

Started at $800.

4 bids.

Went to $1300.

"This is a like new Colt Special Lady. Only made for a few months in 1996 I believe. According to the original owner only 2 cylinders , 12 shots, have been fired through it. No scratches, dings, wear, or any blemish that I can see. The pictures are not real good and the yellow looking spots are just light reflection. Includes original box and manual."

I only bought it because I thought it was pretty!
...well, you know what they say....."buy what you like, and trust your instincts."

Several years ago, I bought a NIB 3" Colt stainless DS-II made the same year your "Special Lady" was manufactured....I had no idea how few were produced or that it would become so valuable. At the time I bought it, a 3" stainless steel Detective Special just sounded like a very useful revolver.

Thank you for your response Diamondback!

I almost sold the gun to a guy at work for $200. I'm glad I started searching and asking people how much it was worth. He was going to give me the $200site unseen! He was to excited after I told him what I had at home that I knew I had to check into the gun before I sold it to him! Glad I did!

I'm still thinking about selling it. Are there any good/honest aution sites I should try?

Thank you! :p

About 2 years ago I bought an SF-VI just like yours (2" bobbed hammer), but without the "Special Lady" tag for $325 OTD in excellent condition. It did not have the box and paperwork. I saw it at 3-4 gun shows marked at $350 before I finally bought it from the dealer.

I'm not sure how much of a premium the "Special Lady" brings - must be a Colt collector thing.

I know prices for these guns have gone up - but I think internet prices are much higher than local prices for this (and many other) guns.
Here's mine:

I'm thinking about auctioning it on Gunbroker.com.

Do you think a local gun dealer will ship it for me? Is there usually a fee involved? If there is, what do they usually charge?

Thank you for any advice!

An FFL will normally charge about $50 to ship. That's their FFL fee and shipping cost together.

Very nice gun by the way.

I spoke with a local gun dealer (where I bought my gun) and he will ship it for me. No jail time for me! :neener:

The other dealer must fax or mail them a copy of their FFL.

This has truly been a learning experience for me.

Thank you for the help!

Thank you John!

I hope I get a lot of bidders tooooo!
I've had a lot of people looking but no one is bidding, yet!

I really need a new washer and dryer!

If you don't get a chance to see the end of auction, I will post it here!

With 4 teenage girls at home, I'd rather have a new washer and dryer.

You haven't seen this washer and dryer! :neener:

:D

I've been wondering if they'd wait until the last day to start the bidding. Nope. Nothing to do now but sit back and see if it goes higher. Congrats.

John
