I've heard some say that they attended the SHOT show while possessing only a C&R FFL. I didn't think this was doable, or at least frowned on. What's the straight scoop on this?
A few years ago SHOT sent invitations out to C&R FFL holders in addition to the normal 01 FFL stocking dealers. I don't know if that is still their current policy, but it may be. Check with the people who run SHOT to find out for sure.
It's an industry trade show, not a gun show. If they open it to the general public it would be *much* harder for the people in the industry to actually do business there.
That's how I get in (C&R). I try not to ask the reps too many questions as they are there to do business and I don't want to hold them up from that.
To tell you the truth, I do prefer that it is a trade show and not open to the public. I would hate to see significant mishandling of the guns there, particularly the higher end ones.
"Where there's a will there's a way." The rules for getting credentialed to attend the SHOT show are pretty lax. If you are even fairly well known at your local gun shop, or have any other industry connection at all, ask them if they will provide you with a very basic letter endorsing you as their SHOT Show rep. I have met literally 100s of folks at the last 4 SHOT Shows who have done that and gotten in. No problem.
