"So can you all get Saigas in Canada?"

Nope, I'm in Atlanta, GA.
The SAIGIA in .223 is a good idea. Personally, I'd go for an AR15 in 5.56x45 and a G19 with .22 conversions for both. The .22lr conversions will allow you to train quite a bit before hitting the "Expensive" line.

As far as i'm concerned, this role would currently be filled by an M1 Garand with Ram-Line synthetic stock as well as my RIA M1911. Ammo stockpile is extensive, and much of it is stored on waist belts and sling bandoliers.

Some may consider this to be overkill in weaponry, and it's not that I anticipate getting caught up in a ferocious and desperate skirmish a la Black Hawk Down, but I reckon that it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

can't say anything that hasn't been said but my vote is for sks (or five), at least a 500 rds for each and another 1000 total for every one to get comfortable with. yes if hunting is in the shtf plan i would get a 12 ga. and 1000 rds for it and a .22 with as many rds (in 500 rd bricks) as walmart has on the day you stock up. and get another every trip until you think you couldn't possibly need that many. then get a few more! of course i've already got these so i'm not starting from scratch!

I was born in 1955.
I am sticking to Rifles as my mentors actually put back, and actually used when matters did get serious. Like Riots, Looters when Tornadoes come through, Escaped prisoners in the area, ...etc.

This applies to Handguns and Shotguns and other items for when matters get serious.

I may or may not have added something "more modern" if I did, it is based on the same idea of "back then".

Ahh...Mentors were so right. So nice to just have some stuff out of the way and not have it interfere with life again.

You can get 2-3 AK's for the cost of one AR.

7.62x39 is cheaper than .223

If TSHTF... What you don't have stockpiled... you don't have.

7.62x39 IS plentafull/easily avalable... you can buy it at WALLMART for crying out loud!

You can buy SKS's for cheaper shooters/butter knife guns and stock the same ammo/have SKS stripper clips work for the AK mags.

AK, M1A, FAL... I'd take any of them...
