Sig Sauer Scorpion

I just returned from my favorite gunshop and saw the new Sig Sauer 1911 for $870 (plus tax). It looks great. I have to wonder: (i) how easily does its finish scratch? (ii) how accurate is it? (iii) why it cost that much less than an Ed Brown, say?

I have found SiG 1911s to be well made and accurate...similar to Kimber, Springfield, Colt's, etc...the finish is Cerakote I believe...applied by ccr...I believe it is a polymer spray and bake type finish and should last like most all of those do...(I have no pistols finished like this so...)probably a lot less hand fitting than an Ed Brown so the price is less...good luck with your choice...

The gun is finished in Cerakote which is a decent bake on finish. It will hold up pretty well. I think that there are better finishes out there but if you like the look of the gun then the finish will should hold up well enough.

As to the gun itself it is a decent production 1911. Better than some worse than others. It is a production gun made on an assembly line out of parts which are manufactured for Sig. It is assembled with a lot less hand fitting than a semi-custom gun like an Ed Brown.

When you compare a production gun to a semi-custom you are playing for higher quality parts, fitting and assembly. Tha amoung of time fitting and assembling the gun is a huge part of what makes an Ed Brown a $1800+ gun.

It is like the difference between a car assembled in large high speed assemblyline vs a hand made car. Think standard Mercedes Benz vs a AMG Mercedes Benz. Both are nice and of high quality one is built out of better materials and is more refined and under the right conditions perform better than the other.

Depending on your needs the Sig may or may not be enough gun. If you like it buy it. Sig has worked most of the bugs out of their 1911 line. It would not be my first choice but to each their own.
