Anyone here shoot IDPA with a Sig?

If so, what model/caliber and how do you do against all of the Glocks and XDs?

I'm getting into IDPA and have been shooting an old (KA) P226. I do pretty well with it but I'm usually the only Sig at my clubs shoot. I usually finish in the top 5. It's not an Official IDPA match, but I'd like to start shooting Official matches and I'd like to know if there are any shooters that use Sigs.

Out of about 20 or so shooters, there are usually about 8-9 Glocks, 3-4 XDs, and the rest are Berettas, CZs, and 1911s.

People do but the long reset of the Sig trigger makes it less attractive for IDPA and other gun games. I think that an SRT or Bruce Gray Trigger job would help.

I shoot IDPA with a 9mm P229, and have pretty good luck. Usually end up 3rd or 4th, but no one, including me, is a pro.
I think among a bunch of regular shooters, you can do well with a Sig. Besides, it's nice to do good with something different than what everyone else is using.

I did informal action shooting with my 226 Navy. We had 8" steel plates setup at 8-10 yards, you load one mag with 6 rounds (for six plates) and draw from a holster trying to run them as fast as you can. If you miss you have to reload. I was second fastest of the group, but it wasn't like we were pros. My friend was just a bit faster with his G34, although he could really shoot anything pretty well. We would occasionally swap pistols to see how it went, one of the best I used was a P7M8. A couple of guys were pretty good, a few STI equipped IDPA guys, of course there was another guy using a 226 Navy, and he was one of the worst. :p

Muddflap-
I'm with you. I like having the only Sig. The guys that shoot (and I) are not pros either. It's more of a "laid back just having a good time" type of shoot at my club. It all about bragging rights till next month type of thing.
Nobody (except one guy  ) gets really crazy with making sure the score is exactly correct.

Not really sure if anyone's interested, but I went to the gun show this weekend and handled a few Sig P6's and, to be honest, they felt absolutely PERFECT in my hands. I mean, like the gun and grips were custom-made just for me. I'm going to AIM this week to buy one for $75 less than what those jokers at the gun show were charging.

SubSolar-
Nice pair! The P226STs are one of my favorite shooting Sigs. The extra weight of the steel frame makes them feel like .22s

Ohio Rifleman-
I agree with you about the fit of the P225/P6s. The grip size and angle is perfect for me as well.

I had to laugh - the last gun show that I went to, a guy was selling a P6 (it wasn't even clean) for $579!! :what:
I sure hope nobody was stupid enough to buy it.

That would be a great price on a brand spankin' new Sig, but for a P6? I also hope nobody bought it for anything close to that price. I can see someone buying a Sig for $579 thinking they got a great deal, going online and seeing the same gun for less than half that price. :what:

I love gun shows, but you have to know how much stuff is going for or you'll get ripped off.

Yeh, me too.
I like going to shows and seeing the same vendor trying to sell the same POS overpriced gun for a couple of years :D
I feel like saying something to him, but I don't.

There is a gun store not far from my house that has a Sig/Browning BDA (P220) .45acp that has been re-finished (older) in some sort of stainless finish - maybe Robar??
It is a consignment gun that has been there for over 9 years!!!
The owner wants $700.00 firm. It comes with one mag (euro mag release) no box/papers! The gun is worth maybe $450 tops.
I think it will be there for a long time to come ;)

Big question for all you P229/40 users out there..

...

Thanks to 1Blindref lending me his SIG DVD, I swapped out my heavy, very rough-stacking trigger pull main spring from the factory 24lb main spring to a Wolff 18lb main spring.. Shot 150 rounds of 180gr Winchester wb and no light strikes, along with 20 rounds of 180gr JHP's.. gun was perfect at 100%

I now have main spring rings permanently marked on my support hand fingers, along with they're still very cold feeling.. :what: lol But..

Comparing it to my older P229, yet newer model (short main spring) trigger, they're close, but the older one (rounds fired wise) is a bit lighter and smoother in the DA pull (perfect in my mind) SOOOOOOO

I wondering IF any out there are using a 17lb, or 16lb (old style long spring) main spring in their P229 40's without any light strikes, proving reliable with ongoing performance..??

I think 1lb or 2lbs less would make the newer, yet older long main spring model' trigger-pull feel and a bit less stacking toward the end of the pull, all but not going with a little less.

Appreciate any ongoing experiences with lighter than 18lb main springs, old style-long springs, out there.. good or bad.

Just curious

Just got this in an email. Looks like it fits an assortment of your favorite P series SIG's and at a very reasonable price.

Thanks for that link AK! (that P229 in the picture sure has some character!)

Are you going to, or did you order one?

Looks like a great idea - sure would make some room in my holster drawers...lol

Glad your hammer spring swap turn out well for you.
I've read some posts on the Sig Forum where guys were running 16 and 17lb springs in their Sigs. I don't know if I'd go that light on a CCW.

Maybe you should try going lighter while your fingers are still numb :neener:

Another question about my P232 SL

Maybe you should try going lighter while your fingers are still numb :neener:
...

Exactly, while my fingers are grooved and cramped "in the hold the spring down" mode.. :D

Actually, I'm leaning more on leaving the 18lb spring for another 500 rounds or so to see it a little more break-in will solve the slight difference.

But I'm really thinking on changing out the main spring on my P232 SL that I can't seem to sell..

By chance, do you think any of those Wolff springs that are left, would work on the P232..? It really has heavy (but smooth, no stacking) DA pull and a very hard hammer hit that I'd at least like to lighten up both effects.

Looks like Wolff lists different part #s for the P230/P232.
The factory weight looks like its 20lbs

BTW - how much are you asking for that beautiful P232??
Do you have a link to the listing in the Classifieds here??

More food for thought on P232 SL

...

Thanks 1BR for the Wolff ratings, and factory 20lb mention..

Dang, I was hoping that either the 17lb or 16lb wolff springs I have left would work..

:scrutiny: hmmm, they look the same size in width, wonder if I could cut a few coils off to match them in length and then go in and operate..??

Open for comments.. suggestions

550 plus shipping, but I have to make "another" post with it, as the last one is lost back in the back pages of that forum.. they turn so fast. Thank God I'm shipping it OUT of Calif. and not having it shipped INTO Calif.. geeesh, what a mess with, yet, another Calif DOJ law now (on shipping guns into Calif.) in effect since July 08..

If they, next, make us have a, signed, permission-note from our Grandmother, I'm screwed..

Not yet, I just got a replacement last week for the Blade Tech IWB my kid "borrowed" a little while back for his P229.

I have a bunch of their holsters, but all of them are model specific. Some models will work in anothers holster, but not across the range like that one.

Your right about their P229. :)

Sounds like you have the same kid I have...lol. At least I know where to look when I'm missing something gun related ;)

Your right about their P229.:)

There is one up at my range that looks close to the one in that picture. It's been there for a few months and everytime I see it I'm tempted to snatch it up. The price is right and it comes with a .357sig barrel

hmmmmm........ maybe...... Damn this addiction :banghead:

LOL. Yep, and it aint just gun stuff either!

Hey 1BLINDREF,

I just heard that Target World sold out to WAWA and closed up. How long ago did that happen, and did they move, or are they gone all together?

I didn't hear that so I called them (I don't go there very often) to see.

The guy I spoke with said its been rumored that a big developer is trying to buy up the 18 or so acres that Target World, Wawa, and a bunch of other small bussiness' are sitting on. They want to build a Super Wawa and a bunch of strip mall type stores on the land.
The person I spoke with wasn't sure exactly if and when it might happen, but he did say that they are selling only one and three month memberships :scrutiny:

Thanks for the info. :)

I dont get down over that way much anymore. I used to spend a fair amount of time in there, especially when the kids were little. It was the only place in the area that let you shoot full auto.

You boys dont realize how lucky you have it when it comes to guns shops with a selection and some variety. I was lucky enough to get out of that rat race down there, and can shoot right out my door now if I want, or have a real nice range just two minutes away where I can shoot anything I want, any way I want, but now I have to drive over an hour just to "see" something that isnt "hunting" related.

I bought a new Reverse Two Tone P229R .40 and haven't even handled it. I really want to take it to the range to shoot a box of ammo through it but that would bring the value of it down and I am going to be selling it soon.

I haven't been able to find the gun on any of Sig's catalogs. Is it a rare or limited run gun?

I was also wondering what you guys think I could sell it for as I would like to get my money out of it since I bought it new.

Really, how much would it affect the price I sell it for if I brought it to the range one time?

redfireftr-
The reverse TT P229s were a limited run. I don't know how many they made but you might be able to call Sig CS and find out. If you get the right person on the phone, they might give you that info.

Sig does do quite a few limited runs of their guns.
As far as value goes, IMHO - it's worth what someone will pay you for it.

Sigs are not really considered "collectable" guns unless its a P210 or the older factory nickel finished W.Germans. Todays X5s might someday become "collectable" or highly sought after, but who knows?

Unfired guns are generally worth more to collectors, but again, I don't know if a collector would be interested in that gun. If you really want to sell it, I'd leave it unfired and advertise it that way.

If you don't get what you want for it, go ahead and shoot it.

If you do, I'll bet you'll want to keep it ;)

Well, I did it. I went to AIM and bought a Sig Sauer P6. I don't have pics yet, as the batteries in my digital camera are dead. :cuss: But it's in great shape...some honest wear on the finish, but not a whole lot. It had some crud in it, but that cleaned out very easily. Just looked like there'd been maybe, 100 rounds through it, if that much. There's some paint or something on the front sight so it's easier to see. Overall, for a first handgun, absolutely unbeatable.
