SKS Capsule Lid for Blank Fire?

The buttstock of all versions is hollowed out to receive a cleaning kit contained in a steel capsule. The body of the capsule also serves as a handle for the cleaning rod and its lid fastens over the muzzle to protect the rifle during cleaning. Inside the capsule is a bore brush, a cleaning rod extension, and a tool to clear carbon fowling from the gas port. The capsule lid can also serve as a blank firing device, if properly locked onto the front sight base.

Any idea if that's true? Would this be for firing blanks for training excercises, or is this somehow connected to the grenade launching blanks? Would the action cycle if it's for training use?

Been wanting a semi-auto rifle, and hoping to get one that can possibly be used for firing blanks for film use as well. I've seen blank fire adapters on sale for AKs and some for the SKS, but if this quote is true, then the SKS basically comes ready to fire blanks- is that true?

Yep,if you have the cleaning kit and some blanks,you are good to go.

Just my opinion

I think that part of the kit is to be used as a cleaning rod guide. A guy told me once that he blew his off trying to use it as a blank firing adapter. I am using an AK kit in mine and it has a hole in the end of it for the rod to go through, I don't know if the original SKS kit was the same or not. Anyway I wouldn't try it until you investigate a little more.

I call BS...

For one thing, the cleaning kit cap does not secure to the muzzle well enough. And for another thing, the hole in the cap is too large to restrict enough gas to work the action. The hole in the cap is large enough for the cleaning rod to go through, the hole in an AK BFA is smaller than a toothpick.

Understand that in the world of blanks, there are no "specs" to be followed.

What blank will run one gun will not run another.

As an example, in '06 you can get blanks that will run a Garand all day long, but won't even begin to cycle a BAR with it's standard blank adapter.

I have to get '06 blanks almost twice as powerful to cycle my BAR.

.45ACP the same. What will run a 1911 won't begin to function my Thompson unless I put a MUCH smaller orifice in the adapter.

So for 7.62x39 you are gonna see the same thing. The orifice in a blank adapter might work fine with one brand or load of blanks and not work at all with another.

You'll need to find what the standard issue blank load the adapter was intended to work with before you can know for sure.

The story of blowing the blank adapter off makes sense if the shooter was using a load much stronger than the adapter was intended for.

This is what I was talking about when I said I was using an AK kit. I only use the cap as a rod guide. It doesn't fasten at all to my SKS or AK barrel so would never use it as a BFA.
