SKS - Dragunov stock vs. standard?

To those who have put a Dragunov stock on their SKS rifles, what was your opinion of it? Were you able to get a good check weld with the iron sights?

I am looking at the Choate Dragunov. It looks to be well built, but heavy. I don't know if I will regret it compared to the standard stock.

Years ago, I bought two Norinco SKS carbines wwhen they first started importing them. One I kept absolutely as it came from the box, minus the heavy coat of cosmoline. The other I put into a Choate Dragunov stock, added a 4x scope, and removed the bayonet (no provision for a folding bayonet on the new stock.
When I was done, it weighed more, wasn't as handy, and really wasn't any easier to shoot well. I sold it, at rather a hefty profit, to a fellow who was enchanted by its looks. He wanted, and couldn't afford, a real Dragunov. The tarted-up SKS gave him some solace.
If you don't find the standard stock comfortable, try adding a thick buttpad to it for a little extra length. The Drag stock has nothing going for it but its looks. If that look is what you want, though, buy and enjoy. This is supposed to be fun, after all.

I much prefer the standard stock. I like the Choate design and it feels comfortable, so long as you don't pull the trigger. For some reason, they made the trigger reach too short. This isn't why I sold the gun. I didn't like the fact that you had to remove two wood screws on the front of the pistol grip every time you wanted to take the gun out of the stock. Sure, field-cleaning only requires the bolt carrier assembly and gas piston, but I like to be able to remove the stock by just pushing the nub in the rear. The primary advantage of the Choate Stock was the cheek rest for scopes. That's about it.

My opinion? Get yourself a Choate standard stock. Much longer length of pull and the grip is better shaped. Cheaper solution is to just get an extended recoil pad for the extra length.
