SKS - Yes or No

If you want a 30 round mag, get another AK.

The beauty of the SKS IMHO is that it is much handier with the 10 round box than an AK with a 30 round mag.

10 rounds will do to solve any realistic problem you might encounter, if you'll do. If you won't, mag capacity ain't going to help you.

i vote leave it stock
when we bought mine it came with a 10 rd detach and 20 rd permanent as well as the 10 rd permanent stock magazine
i immediately put in the stock mag.....the gun has been going strong for 50+ yrs without a diff mag......10 rds of ammo and 4 more stripper clips had better let you deal with anything....if not, you need to run,

SKS

I don't want to put a hit on a yugo SKS purchase, only priority.

Given a limited budget and the desire for a shooter and not a collection, I would get a Saiga 7.62x39mm first.

Why--I have been impressed with the accuracy of this rifle especially with the Kobra red dot attached. I am surprised how well it holds zero. It does well with Barnual ammo from Sportsmans Guide. Russian made chrome lined barrel and action from the home of the AK.

If you don't need a pistol grip or a 30 rnd. mag.--get a Saiga.

You would have to work REAL hard to be bad mouthed for buying an SKS of ANY brand! Its a classic rifle at a 1960's price. I have always liked the looks of that Chinese SKS modification with the purpose built 30 round magazine installed. It has the shooting comfort of the SKS with the reliability and firepower of the AK.

SKS

In 1992 my dad bought my brother and I both NIB Norinco SKS rifles. For some reason I got it in my head that I wanted to sell that thing. I am still kicking myself. That was a damn good gun that was extremly accurate. I could consistantly hit a paper plate at 225 yard when i was 13!!

I am planning on buying one again someday. It is kind of far down my priority list at the moment. Great gun. CDNN has a great price right now if you have dealer that buys from them locally.

For a truck gun, I'd get some other kind of SKS, not a Yugo. The extra length of the grenade launcher makes it a little less handy than a Russian, Romanian, Chinese.

The ten round fixed mag is not a problem, you can reload from stripper clips about as fast as changing mags on an AK.

Regards.

I was working on my new 30rnd mag today. At the front of the duckbill is a "strap" that runs across the top. I cut it in half and bent the tabs lower so the magazine would fit farther up into the stock. After playing around a little to get the height correct, it now works perfectly. Just have to get my friend to weld it into place so its more durable. I agree that the 10rnd mags are better for a truck gun, but the 30rnds sure are fun!
