The most people on earth?

My guess would be the 8mm Mauser (8x57) or the .303 given that these have been used very extensively in both the world wars amongst other conflicts.

(And yes I do know calibers dont kill... people do.)

Yeah, AK-47's have probably killed the most people on earth. They weren't around for WW2, but in the years since, think about how many people the Soviets, and anyone who's bought arms from them has killed?

Alternatively, the 5.56x45 round has killed a lot of people. From Vietnam (a hell of a lot of Vietnamese casualties) on, the US, and NATO states have used this round.

The .30-06 killed a few in WW 1&2.
The 8mm Mauser certainly.
The 7.62x54R.

The musket ball...

The list goes on.

I believe .22L was the defacto "winner".

I almost makes no sense. Where are all these deaths from the .22 that trumps the (possibly) tens of thousands killed by the .223?

I would debate the .22lr, since outside of training, and recreational shooting in the US, I doubt it is used that much around the world. Venerable Soviet M43 though has been in every war fought since 1953 or so. I don't recall the N.Koreans and Chinese having Ak's around that time, but I could be mistaken.

IIRC, .38 special has killed the most in the U.S. I wouldn't even know about the whole world, though.
