Does anyone mainly pocket carry? Sounds like most people IWB carry. Does anyone mainly pocket carry? Or is it to heavy?

With a pocket holster and big pockets (think overalls, dockers or BDUs. Forget about jeans unless you wear 'em really baggy!) it works ok. The SP weighs about the same as a Kahr MK40 and I've carried both at one time or another.

When it comes to pocket carry, I find the S&W 642 is most acceptable in a pocket holster. One could carry a SP101, but the wieght of the firearm is noticeable -- but may not bother you at all. A lot about life is about what you're willing to get used to. Good Luck......

Had one. Great shooter, great carry gun. Light recoil for .38 and most .357 loads.

No the best pocket gun. To darn heavy.

Like others said, it is a bit heavy/bulky, but it's doable if your pockets are big enough. And I'd only carry it that way with a bobbed hammer. Like the Kahr 9mm/40, the SP101 probably makes more sense as an IWB/OWB gun.

The lightweight S&W and Taurus snubbies are more optimized, IMO, to the pocket carry role.

I carry the DAO in a Mika round-cut pocket holster in my jeans front pocket all day long...Don't even notice it's there...Guess I'm just used to it.
In the winter, it's in my front winter coat pocket with no holster.
While in the truck, I have a concealed holster set-up.

P.S. I have Trausch Grips on it and it draws easily...Not "sticky".

Oh dear... We've all become wimps...

Back during the 1930's "real men" carried cut-down Colt New Service .45 revolvers in their side pockets. :what:

Anyway the SP-101 can be carried in a pocket if the user has the right kind of pants and holster. The big problem with the weight is that it tends to make the pants sag and print. During the 30's men's trousers tended to be baggy, and that made a difference. One might find a clue in this.

One advantage of the little Ruger is the spike that holds the mainspring allows custom stocks that may be harder to hold on to, but are a better shaped to fit inside the pocket.

Yeah, but they all wore braces (suspenders) with their belts, too, and the pants were generally looser at the ips than now.

I have three of these guns, and I find the SP101 to be too big and heavy for pocket carry. It's a compact and relatively light (25 oz) gun, but I prefer a smaller S&W J-frame in an alloy for pocket holster use.

Not every day, but often, I pocket carry an SP101 in a Kramer holster. Less often, but dictated by the pocket's dimension, I might substitute a Galco leather pocket holster, or synthetic holsters by Uncle Mike's or Desantis. The limitations of pocket carry prompt me to try to use other forms of carry for the primary weapon. In the past, I have carried two SP101 snubbies in the front pockets of Wrangler Riata slacks.

I agree with Ronto, OF, and Rexster, the SP101 isn't that bad in a pocket. I have a Mika pocket holster ordered, but in the meantime tried a Mika made for the 642. The SP101 fit in the holster, although not quite as well as the 642. It actually felt pretty good in the pocket, better than my G26. With an untucked shirt, I don't think you'd have much problem.

Hi: I carry the short barrel sp101 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster when I'm in Wranglers. I think the pant style makes the difference because it weighs around 23oz. empty. The rubber grip makes it a tad harder to pull out as opposed to wood but it fits me real well and it's quite.

In the 30's pants were worn around the waist and not hung on the hips...excellent suspenders were the norm as well. Nothing like our store bought suits...all were hand tailored. Nope...if you carry an anchor...I can spot you a mile away. Stick witht the 642 in the front pocket.

I pocket carry mine either in a jacket pocket when appropriate, or in the thigh pocket of my cargo's.
Otherwise, it's in a IWB.

SP-101 pocket carry

I carry one daily in a Mika pocket holster. Most of the time I wear slacks and occasionally jeans. I found it a little heavy the first few days I wore it, but don't really notice the weight now. I used to carry an airweight J-frame in .38 Spl.

One of these days I will pick up another short barrel SP101 with spurless hammer to try it in, until then I think it would be a little on the heavy side.

But it all depends on how much you are willing to figure out a way that works. That will probably include a really good belt and pants that are fairly thick/stiff.

I carried an SP101 in my pocket, Yes it's do-able, but check with your physician before begining an excercise regiment. ;)
