going to get a rifle dropping it in a mcmillan a-4...
i would have to wait for the mcmilan but im wondering if the police is much better than the 700 sps varmint??? because i want a rifle to use for the wait... what do you guys think???
and is there any difference in the barrel contour??? it will be in 308 if that helps...

My 700 SPS varmint in .223 Rem is grouping 0.182" center-to-center at 100 yards. It is difficult to imagine that the police model could do better. For what it is worth, I have considered picking up an SPS in 243 and in .308. The price is right and my daughter loves them. $495.00 to $515.00 and a $30.00 rebate.

there is no type of bedding on the varmint correct??? same remington 700 action too???

Since you are going to replace the stock get the SPS. Same 700 action , same 26" heavy barrel profile and $350 or so less.

Comparing my 700LTR (which is like the short barrel version of the Police) and my 700SPS the LTR has an almost parkerized finish where the SPS is more like matte blue , not quite as dull. Of course the 700P/700LTR have the HS Precision stocks.

The SPS Varmint has a plastic stock with no type of bedding.

hmmm well i guess ill get the varmint then... about how long does it usually take to get a mcmillan??? about 5 months or so???
