All the reviews are good on the Stoeger Cougar and I haven't hear anything bad about it on the NET.

Does anyone here own a Cougar in 9mm? I would like to here a report from a real shooter instead of just hearing what writers have to say about it.

Thanks...

I have an 8000 in 9mm. It is a good weapon. I have not shot it much but I intend to fix that soon. It fits my hand well, that is one of the reasons I bought it. I have been shooting cast lead in it and it seems to collect lead more then other weapons I have but it is easy to clean. What else can I tell you, I like it, I carry it, the price was good.

Oh yes, I forgot. It seems to be a little sensitive to the overall length of the round. I have been reloading and had some problems when I first started with getting the rounds to chamber.

It's the same gun as the Beretta & made on the same tooling.

Reviews have all been favorable - you should visit the Beretta Forums, you'll find plenty of info.

If I didn't already have an Inox 8000 I would have a Stoeger by now.

I have enjoyed my Stoeger. It has been flawless so far (almost 1000 rounds). It is very accurate, and is my daily carry weapon. Because of the performance and quality, the price is only an additional benefit.

I bought the Stoeger in 9mm early on after reading the review. It turned out to be a great choice for me. It handles very well and the price was right.

The new Cougar is probably the best deal on the market today. To bad I can't find one within a 100 miles of my home!!

Someone always feels the need to mention the "search" feature of the forum.

Mannix,
Thank you for posting the "search" links but I already read them before I made this thread. Since the information provided in those links was over a year old I figured there was no harm in asking current owners what they think of their pistols hoping they've had them for a while.

cpirtle,
Thanks, I will check out the Beretta forum.

I thank the owners of the Stoeger Cougars who have posted replies to this thread. I do appreciate the first hand information.

We just got a few in at the shop where I work. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the finish on the slide. It looked and felt like a low cost bake on enamel type gun finish. Otherwise I could find no flaw. Finish everywhere else and fit of all parts was very good. Everything felt and handled as it should. Considering that these are selling for not much more than a Sigma (well they would be if S&W wasn't running the never ending $50 plus 2 mags rebate) they're quite a bit of pistol for the money. Metal frame, pretty good trigger, proven Beretta design. They made a pretty good impression on me.

Most magazine gun reviews are "good" reviews. FWIW, when the Cougar was being sold by Beretta, it was one of my agency's "approved" duty pistols, along with the SIG P229 and a decocker-only model made by S&W. The Cougar was soon removed from the list due to functioning problems, though officers who already owned them could keep carrying them, and VERY few Cougars are still seen in duty holsters around here these days.

I have one since the time they came out and for me it has been perfect. A feature that a lot of people forget to mention talking about the Cougar is that it is about the easiest gun to fieldstrip and clean. The only thing is that my wife and one girlfriend of her did limpwrist it a couple of times. She doesn't like to shoot it anymore and now claims my 686 Smith as her own:mad:.
I love it. It is a very good looking pistol and i have fed it everything from Federal HST's all the way down to cheapo green box Chinese rounds with never an issue. I just wish they made a Kydex holster for it. I'm sure there are more accurate pistols out there, but probably not for the same money.

My $0.02 is that you should go for it a 100%

Rotating barrels have always intrigued me as a design concept. If it had a steel frame I'd probably own one.

Cougar 8000

Just bought My Cougar this weekend. I've been thinking about it for some time now and could not beat the price I saw - $315. Will take it out next week hopefully and will report out. My only 'complaint' is the grip; it is very basic and does not feel nearly as good as the Sigma I also looked at. But at this price comes small compromise, I suppose.

There seems to be a lack of peripherals (grips, holsters etc) for it, at east looking by the Stoeger name. I picked up a rather basic size 1 Uncle Mikes carry holster that fits just fine and will work for now. The barrel is 3 3/4, so I assume most 4 inch holsters should work.

i have the cougar 8000 and this gun is great!!! i have shot other handguns and nothing compares to it! i love the way this gun just fits in your hand! my friends think i got a cheap gun but i'm slowly turning their opinions around after they shoot my gun. if you see this gun at the store either the 8000 or the 8040, i would recommend on getting it cuz that will prolly be the only time you'll see it....
