Suggestions for a good folding stock?

I am looking for suggestions for a good folding stock. If you have any experience, please give me any pros or cons or comments and the specific brand(s). This would probably be for an Remington 870. I know some have said to avoid the factory Remington top folding stock because it can cut your cheek.

I know most people here hate the idea of folding stocks so please no flames. One reason for the folding stock is to easily and discreetly transport a home defense gun between homes. Thanks in advance.

i hear butler creek has good quality side folders though. no experience on my part

Folders? Cough, wheeze, snort....

Seriously, I've had some decent reports on the side folders from Butler Creek. Other items of theirs here are well designed and made.

Avoid the old Remington top folders, those are the ones you hear dire warninga about.

i checked out a butler creek side folder last night. if your left handed dont bother. when its extended its fine but collapsed it inteferes with slide operation for a pump

Don't bother at all with a Butler Creek (as far as I'm concerned) unless you're going to wear gloves.

the problem is that the metal frame which sits right above the pistol grip will beat the heck outta the top of your strong hand.

And the blueing is cheap (rusts very easily)... and mine collapsed on me a couple of times (poor design).

Dumped it pretty shortly...

I can't tell from the pictures but, it seems like one might be easier on the hand than the other. Also, is the problem you described still a problem if plan on using it for a few shots? I'm definitely not planning to use it as a regular range gun.

I posted before for an adaptor my friend makes for the Mossberg shotguns to put a PG and CAR stock on it. He was working on one for the Rem. 870 and now it's done.

No such thing as a good folding stock on anything but an SMG. Almost as useless as a no stock pistrol grip.

a properly designed folding stock is just as good as a fixed stock when extended, and allieviates some storage problems when folded.

Choate is what I have on 4 different guns - I like 'em, But that said I changed back to fixed wood stock on my 870 - Now I have changed to fixed plastic - But I'm hanging on the folder in case I want to go back.

I had the Choate side folder for awhile. Built very solid. Too solid in fact for my tastes. It seemed to increase felt recoil through that steel right into my shoulder. Sold it and went back to factory wood. YMMV.

Guys, Joe's got a need for his folder. FWIW, sounds like a good solution to his problem. I met a guy who used the same idea when on the road. Most places that frown on handguns, don't seem interested in shotguns. This fellow was carrying his between motel rooms and his car.

There are carrying cases made for PG shotguns. One may fit your folder, if so, this is a pretty good "camoflage" move, IMHO.

I have the first one you posted, but the hinge mechanism for both is the same and the same cheap finish.. beats you up pretty much the same. Maybe It's my meathooks (pretty large hands)..

Just handled a Choate top folder this morning. Looked pretty good. Didn't have the chance to shoot it.
