Sweet buy at a garage sale.

The other day as I was drive my motorcycle around I came on a garage sale.
As I was looking at the stuff I see a shotgun laying on the table.
It is a H&R 20g. 3inch, single shot with a modified choke. There are two full boxes of 7 shot Winchester ammo taped to it.
It turns out to be in very nice shape and is a youth model.
Can you believe the guy only want 30 bucks for it all.
Well the wallet comes out and 30 bucks are changing hands as fast as you can say holly <deleted> what a deal.
I pull out my multi tool and take it apart, put it my saddle bags and ride off with a smile on my face.
I don't know if I will keep it or flip it for a nice profit. I Could very easily double my money on this one.

Great deal, I just bought an old .22 for 35 dollars at a garage sale and really like it, just got back from plinking. Gotta love truely good deals :D

Me too.
Everyone else seems to get the good deals.

The last good deal I remember getting was twenty years ago in the grocery store when the largest box of washing machine soap was mis-marked instead of eleven-something, it was like $1.19! When the lady at the cash register said she needs to honor the lower price I told her to wait a second and ran back and grabbed it all (like three boxes)!

So much for good deals on guns.
 
that is a sweet deal. i just paid $60 for one last fall with a bit of surface rust no less. cut the barrel on it and re-bead it and you have a great gun for woodcock. that's what i did with mine.
 
good lord if the local do-gooders found out somebody offering a gun for sale at a garage sale there'd be a swat raid
 
ah what it must be like to be able to buy firearms at a yardsale............must be nice to live in a free state.

I bought an S&W nickle pre Model 10 .38 at a yard sale a few years ago for $110.
At another one found a Ruger Single Six with both cylinders and a zippered case for $150. Another time bought a barrel for a Browning shotgun and a Browning luggage case for $60. The guy said his shotgun had been stolen and he had no use for the barrel or the case.
I used to stop at quite a few. Don't do it much anymore.

Many of us have a quota of only one really great deal in a lifetime. Sounds like you used yours on soap. :D

Don't worry though.....you're not alone. I still waiting on a great deal on anything. :eek:
 
I once got a '97 Winchester Trap gun for $50.00. That's probably my great deal of a lifetime.
 
About 8 years ago I got a Savage 24 .22 MAG/.410 for $30.00 at a yard sale. The woman said it had belonged to her EX and wanted to rub it in that she had sold it so inexpensively as a payback. I asked then if she would take a dollar but she wanted to buy a steak dinner with the profits.:D BTW it shoots well and I love it so well I have purchased a couple other variations to use. Congrats on your good fortune.:cool:
 
I picked up a Heritage Rough Rider 4" 22 combo for free recently. It is "on loan" untill I pick up an auto. However, the person told me the loan was permenant. They just didn't want anyone to know they had given it away.

I have been the terror of many bottles of water lately. I even refilled an empty soy sauce bottle just to watch it explode. That gun is more than a little bit fun.

Then it could not be resold, as it was bought, even the free state has laws:)
 
I go to most of the estate sales in Fort Worth every weekend. Never seen ANY kind of deal on shooting items except once I bought 15 458 Win Mag reloads for $.20.
Most of the time the people pricing think anything gun related should start at $1,000.
Went to one Saturday that had a few items: Some of a rusty MEC shotshell reloader for $30., partial boxes of shotgun shells for $8., partial box of .222 brass for $20.
Didn't take advantage of the opportunities.

My greatest deal :D was when Mrs. (at that time unattached) SAS said yes! After 40 plus years (and a little wear and tear here and there), I still wouldn't trade her in! :) All the new models :eek: I've seen recently just don't pass the muster.

Single Action Six
 
Well today I took the shotgun to work and asked my boss if he was in need of a good single shot for his girls.
He has 9 and 11 year old girls who are just getting into deer hunting and are in need of a good slug gun.
I thought he was going to flip out when I told him I would take 60 bucks for it.
Will you hang on to it and I will pay you tommorrow? He asks me.
I told him to take it home and pay me tommorrow.
There is nothing like knowing that you are helping the sport you love to grow.
And I wish I could see the smiles on the two girls faces when they see there new shotgun.
And making 30 dollars by doing not much is good also.:)

Those MetroMess Estate sales think retail + 30%. Gotta get out in the very rural boonies for any hope of finding a deal. Where the folks have lived for a few generations and Aunt Sadie just don't wanna be bothered with Uncle Billy Bob's old guns. Run into a few but usually a feller right in front of me had the same idea and already had his hand on that .38 S&W for $75 :fire:
 
Nice find. I picked up a Ruger 96/22 with scope at a sale last year for $270 and a S&W Model 49 .38 from a sale a year before that for $300. They weren't absolute steals, but I thought they were both good bargains. The little S&W J Frame has become a back up gun for me and my wife really likes the Ruger.

Best deal I got was an early Colt Trooper (I frame action) and a Baby Browning for $125.

It made me realize my mortality as the seller was in a nursing home. He was a champion shot in his days.
 
A couple of years ago, a friend of mine had a small rental house where the tenant passed away. :( After his next-of-kin claimed the items they wanted, they said we could have anything left. The guy was a packrat (and dumpster-diver) with various Christmas light strings out the wazoo (C9, C7, and minis), old computer stuff, cordless phones, VHS tapes (BOXES of them),:uhoh: and (the piece de resitance) a single-shot 20 ga. shotty and a Marlin Glenfield .22 SA. Both in very good condition too! :) My friend had to get a FOID card so I held onto the guns until he did. He wanted the shotty for HD but not the .22, so I got to keep it. :D

If I had that kind of luck finding guns at garage sales, I think that I'd keep going to them.
This December I picked up a Spanish 1916 Guardia Civil in 7.62 for $80. Unfortuntely, I've been halfway stuck a couple of times buying ammo for it. The first time was my own ignorance (Argentine for 40 cents/round), and the second time I bought an ammo can of "German DAG" that had German ammo on top, but mystery ammo in the bottom.
