So they have been out now for a while, how are they holding up? My dealer has em with 7 and 1/2 in barrels for $359 so it makes me think they are not doing well. How is yours doing??

Greetings,

Frankly, compared to my Uberti single action replica (Mine is a 357 magnum )I prefer by far the Uberti. Heavier, nicer, sturdier.

Thank you

The Taurus website still lists them as available, though you have to look for them in a roundabout fashion. Many times, the discontinued status of a whole series is rumored from the liquidation and disontinuation of models with certain configurations. I'm told they develop timing problems fairly quickly. CDNN is closing out a bunch of Gaucho models for cheap right now. Perhaps they discontinued certain models.

Frankly, these Brazilians are weird. They spend the R&D money, market the guns, then start discontinuing them before anybody could figure out how well received they are (were). I notice the .44 magnum Tracker snubbie is now discontinued, as is the same gun in .41 magnum. How long have they been out, a year? I would think minimum 3 years and more realistically 5 years before you could accurately gauge the shooting public's response to a model. Unless of course, nobody is ordering them and I've seen a bunch of .44 2" Trackers move at local shows.

I love mine. Im sure if put side by side with some other models the Gaucho might come up short in a few areas.

That being said, the fit and finish are great, accuracy is fine... for what I do with it anyway. I have no regrets and think its a fine pistol... I would trust my life on its reliability.

Buy one.

There have been numerous quality control complaints on every forum. More than any other gun with the possible exception of the Charter 357/44Spl snubbies.

I bought a Goucho in 45 Colt right after they came out. Within 50 rds the timing was out the window. The firing pin was hitting on the case head, not the primer. It also was hitting about 6 inches high. I returned it to Taurus and they fixed the timing problem, but stated that with Win. Silvertips it hit POA. Since I don't shoot Silvertips but 250's at 700 FPS, I still had the problem. Action was butter smooth and light. Finish was great with real case hardening. All in all, I would buy another one.

Bought two for 400 each. These were the 5 1/2 inch and 4 3/4 inch Stainless Steel models in .357 Magnum. I bought them for CAS. When first looked at, they function well, actions are smooth, and there's just something neat about them. However, when in use, they started developing quirks: Light primer strikes on one always on every other cylinder, and the other developed a "triggerslap" that would smack your index finger's pad after the trigger was pulled. NOT good. I sold mine on the used rack for 300 each and was lucky to get that. Saw some NIB at the last show for 289.00

Taurus says they are still being made and are "extremely popular". Wouldn't buy another.
