This has the potential to be a very good pistol. Word has it retailing at about $500. Safety is still in the wrong spots, but it has three interchangeable backstraps, different magazine release sizes, a well integrated rail, clean lines, all four major duty calibers forthcoming, and fairly high capacity, though .45 ACP will probably be a disappointing 9+1. (ON EDIT: Looks like I was wrong, they are going for 12+1). Oh yeah, four trigger group modules and fully disassembles without specialized tools.

It looks like Beretta is finally getting serious about the polymer duty gun market. I will definitely buy one if the trigger is any good. If they make a CX4 Storm Carbine that will accept the higher cap PX4 mags, that will be one sweet combo.

Interesting. The first "really new" Beretta design in years. Aside from the 9050.

All Beretta designs are evolutionary developments of previous models, going back to about 1951 (the Brigadier).

I like the mag capacities. And it sounds like they are going the LDA/LEM/K trigger route with their constant trigger version.

I'm not a big Beretta fan, but I like the looks of this one. It is kind of swoopy. :)

Why the elitism of offering to LE market only? The ban is dead....and Berreta knows it, trading hicaps for Clintonised mags. So why this stunt? not to mention, great screaming horned toads, what an ugly gun!

Right now, I believe it is because they are only going to be available in limited quantities during the roll-out. At this point, they are probably only available for LE T&E. This pistol was debuted this past weekend at one of those police oriented national conventions cops hold.

It will be available to civilians by the second quarter of 2005 I suspect.

BTW, I think it looks a heck of a lot better than those blocky Teutonic plastik bricks.

No Axis of Weasels problem either. ;)

Armoredman, my bet would be that there is still a rather limited inventory, so roll it out to LE T&E first. Get the free publicity when some departments adopt it. (which takes time, and lets you ramp up production) And then release it to the civillian market as soon as you have sufficient stock to supply all of the distributors.

I didn't want to start this discussion, but my first thought when I saw the picture was "And they call Glocks ugly..."

*strokes his Glock* Don't worry preeeeeciousssss. We still loves you. :D

The grip angle and lack of finger grooves alone make it better looking than a Glock to me. :p

For the first time ever, a beretta handgun actually appeals to me. With a low retail the actual selling price will make it about right to buy as just a fun range plinker. thanx for the heads up.

After hearing about Beretta's very poor handling of the SAKO blow-up problems I've lost interest in Beretta products.

Yes they could have handled that better, but they didn't handle it any worse than the Glock frame "upgrade." They actually recalled product.

The slide and front end look like a hi-point :uhoh: The taurus 24/7 looks better, and it can hold 12 rnds of .45

I do like the grip though

Why not? It's worked for their "Me Too" cowboy guns. :p

It might be too hard to make ol' slabsides Italian swoopy. Even the Valtro has nothing about it that screams "THAT'S ITALIAN!" :D

Say what one will about Beretta, but I like it that they take serious chances with aesthetics while providing mostly decent ergonomics. The CX4 Carbine is a masterpiece in handiness even as it looks like a real life Blade Runner weapon. :)

Looks good. That's the first I've seen of them. Not sure if I'd gve up my Italian made 92F though. ;)

The DA only trigger mode is easily understood, but what is the "constant action" trigger mode?

And I think I like the styling. If it fits my hand well then it will suddenly look much, much better.
