Would you say a police trade in for $299 is a good deal on a SW model 65? Stainless .357 magnum, some superficial scratches. I think I want it...

If it checks out OK per the sticky at the top of this forum buy it - you can, if you want, polish the finish yourself or just put it to work as is.

My model 65 is a tack driver, it was one of my best buys so far at 249 in really great condition.

i agree with Will, if you are close enough to go to Buds and check them out i would do it. Hell, even if your not its still a pretty good deal ive been eyeing these for a bit myself.

It's a Smith, It's a .357, It's a police trade in, probably carried way more than shot. I'd say it probably is a good buy if it checks out. Around my area, it would sell for more than that as trade in blue model 10's are around that price.

I stupidly sold a model 65 that was pretty much identical to the one in the picture you posted. It was a tackdriver and had a good trigger. It showed holster wear because it was carried by some security agency, and there was evidence that the innards were worked on, but it still was a great revolver. Mine had a set of Pachmayr presentation grips on it that, while thick, felt great. Just a good all around six shooter.
