Greetings

I own a Les Baer premier II .45 (LNIB) and a Wilson Combat KZ-45 also like new (only 50 rounds through her) again it is a .45. My question is I am thinking about trading both for a exceptional 1911 9mm. Basically due to ammo cost. I don't reload a i love to shoot. I would like some opinions about Nighthawks, Wilson Combat or Les Baer in that platform..... I have a little more than 2800 wrapped up in those 1911's

Thanks in advance

For me to trade two high end 1911's in .45 for a 9mm, it better be one good 9mm. You're shooting two of the best made 1911's out there. If you're already at the top, it's hard to trade up. I don't see how it would be a winning proposition to trade two good pistols for one good pistol. I'd pass if it were me, but it's your barbecue.

I carry a Wilson CQB (in .45) and have for about 4 years or so. I have absolutely no complaints about it whatsoever.

It just seems to get better with age. Sorry I can't speak to the 9mm platform, but the Wilson .45 has been great.

Thanks,
DFW1911

I agree I have absolutely two of the nicest, most accurate 1911's around. But I want a 1911 in 9mm in the 2600-2800 dollar range suggestions? Btw thanks for the G 17 offer but I own one

Bill

I think if someone takes you up on that trade they're going to make out like a bandit. Are you truly at a level where you can tell the difference between a $1400 and $2400 9mm 1911? If you are, then it's your party. If not...well, I'd want something really special if I were to trade away two premium 1911s.

The only 9mm I would trade those two guns for would be a Ted Yost or Novak BHP.

I would call that a gaint leap backwards.

I can't wrap my head around trading both either. Trading one or the other should land you a very nice 9mm 1911, and still leave you with a premium 1911 in .45 as well. I shoot high end 1911's as well, and I shoot a lot, but I can't imagine making that kind of trade to save on ammo, especially considering the amount of money tied up in your guns. Is the ammo cost your only motivation to trade? If so, have you looked at buying ammo in bulk? I reload the majority of my practice ammo, but all my factory ammo is purchased online in bulk, and there is a significant savings to be had.

thanks for all your responses.....I didn't say I am going to go through with it. I was just curious if there were any SUPER nice 1911's in 9mm worth trading for and saving some on the cost of ammo.

Bill

There are some super nice 9's out there, but nothing, IMHO, that I would personally go that far for.

Then again, I'm a member over at Park Cities Tactical and it is amazing what some of those guys shell out for their HK's.

Forgive my presumption but trading a Les Baer in order to save a few bucks on ammo seems like a false economy to me. Sell the oddball KZ and use the money to buy more .45 ammo.

That's what I'd do, but I'm weird that way.

no suggestions...I guess. I know there are 9mm's in Les Baer, Wilson and Night Hawk

How about getting a 22LR conversion kit. I know it's not the same, but at least you will be able to keep your nice 1911's and still shoot for much cheaper.

I have a hard time imagining being able to afford those two guns and then thinking of getting rid of them to save money on ammo.

$500 will buy you a Lee Loadmaster and all the components to pay half of what a box of factory ammo costs per box of .45.

My .45 ammo costs $4.10 a box. How much is a cheap box of 9mm?

WOW...can even get a answer to my question. Only what others think I should do.

I think you should sell those two .45’s to me for a good price and then go out and buy yourself a good 9 mm.

I think most of us are still trying to wrap our heads around your proposal and are having trouble moving past "Why?" to "How?"

I've never heard a bad thing said about any of the platforms you mentioned (well, price...), but I've also never heard of anyone having one in 9mm. Each of them will surely work to make sure you have one of the finest 9mm pistols out there.

It just seems to me that for high-level 9mm shooters, something like a tricked-out P210 or BHP is the norm. You may simply be blazing new ground for THR folks.

Like I said earlier, just getting idea's from other folks. I am fortunate in that I do have a nice collection of handguns. I am not wealthy, I do have a descent income..... the Les Baer is absolutely the most accurate handgun I have shot. My Wilson KZ-45 isn't to far behind and in will eat pretty much anything, were the Les Baer likes hard ball ammo. I also like 10mm ....I guess I must lean to reload

I have a Baer PII with 1.5" guarantee and an Ed Brown Exec Target. Recently bought a Baer PII 9mm. I've put a few thousand through it. Accuracy was so so at first, is settling in with some pretty good reloads. I am having an ongoing issue with double feeds. Apparently that can be a problem with some of these 1911 9mms. A fellow at my club bought a Kimber stainless target used. he reported that the guy sold it because it just wouldn't run. He said he increased he extractor tension and it runs good. My extractor has so much tension that it will not slide out of the channel for cleaning. It needs to be pushed over from the breach end to get it out.

Mine runs fine for a while, a few mags, then in the middle of a mag I get the double feed jam. I bought it for a range gun, targets plinking and games. I really like shooting the 9mm in the 1911, and will continue to work on the jamming issue. I assume that it will get resolved, or I'll get really good at clearing the weapon during speed steel runs.

Reloading is a lot of fun. I bought the Hornady LnL back a few years ago. I've run about 86,000 documented rounds through it. 9mm and .45 mostly, but rifle rounds from .204 through 300 WSM.

The Baer cost $1,860 through John at Proload. I've spent a few hundred on mags. Will be putting a fiber optic front sight on it in the future.

On the internet? Say it isn't so!.

Since you didn't really specify size, capacity, new/used, or style, add to your list:

STI

Springfield EMP

Kimber Aegis

Para Ordnance

IIRC Dan Wesson had a 9mm 1911 that you could try to track down used.

Also Llama had a 9mm 1911.

Cast your net wider, you just might get a few more bites.
