I love the M1A and prefer the fiberglass stock with a Leopold Mk 2 scope, I also have a Choate folding stock that I can swap out in less than a minute. I was very fortunate to buy mine 8 years ago from a fellow worker that was having financial hardships. I have seen the same setup like mine going for over $4,000 recently.

The modular stock is worth getting iif you have the money, the .308 is an impressive cartridge though still an overkill for urban social work.

It's a Troy MSC chassis system, offered through Fulton Armory as well as other places.

It is the only real competitor to the Sage Chop Mod chassis system currently employed on the Navy Mk 14 Mod 0 rifles.

For the expense and a slight increase in weight, both system eliminate the need for glass bedding or other messy and more short-term accuracy enhancement techniques. Both put the axis of the bore more in line with the shoulder and can be configured to offer adjustable cheek pieces for use with optics. The Sage allow the use of the M1A's excellent standard iron sights but requires a separate optics mount. The Troy comes with a full length top optics rail but requires aftermarket sights be bought while making no use of the second-to-none standard rear sight that comes with the rifle. Both systems usually cost between $700 and $800, which isn't too bad considering even a McMillan is going to run you $600 and still require bedding.

O and my brother just got out of the 101st Airborne after being deployed to Iraq twice. His unit (2/327th) had several Springfield M1A rifles topped with 1.5-5 Leupolds on Sadlak or ARMS mounts employed in the DMR role. This were commercial Springfield rifles, not custom deals from SEI or Fulton.

Correct!

Tony over at LAW483.com helped design the MCS and he sells them for less.

I prefer M14s with 18 and 22 inch barrels in SAGE EBR stocks.
The SOCOM 16 and the TROY M14 MCS are perfect for each other.

I thought darn, that camo is really good nowadays. How could you spot those guys from a distance?

I can't believe some of you guys are arguing aesthetics while looking at a rifle in the hands of a man overseas kicking terrorist ass with the ultimate evolution of John Garand's rifle.

Wood and blued doesn't enter into it.
