True Grit problem

One thing that was mentioned that would have been a bit better was all the black powder smoke that should have filled the air. I guess that would have obscured the fight too much...

I think maybe the big reason they don't use smoky black powder is it would be nearly impossible to maintain continuity between takes, camera angles and scenes. Besides, how many regular folk these days really notice a lack of smoke?

Still think if you combine both movies it would be GREAT!!! I feel some important parts were left out and some that were shown should have been left out. Both I feel are great movies and now I find that it was a book DAMMIT.......not I gotta go to town to find it.

Sooner than we think, all movies will be completely CGI and will be indistinguishable from current films. In fact, they will look better. Computer hardware and CGI software is becoming so powerful and sophisticated that within the next 20 years(?) You'll be able to see john Wayne again and likely change the scene as you see fit.

Actors will become obsolete as computer generated images will take their place. Programs already exist to determine what "look" is the most attractive to people. You'll be able to see the most beautiful women that have never existed.

To think of this more simply. Think of an amalgamation of video games and movies that are even more vivid and better visually than any current "real" film.

There s no stopping this as it becomes less and less expensive to make a movie virtually.

How'd you like to see John Wayne AND Jeff Bridges in your own version of True Grit? It's coming....

Personally, I think the movie sucked.
Bridges overacted to the point of sounding like Marge Simpson's sister.
Damon was so plastic that he was pathetic.
As far as the rest- please.. don't make me relive it.

What's next? A remake of Dirty Harry with Ice-t as Harry Callahan?

Is nothing sacred? Leave the classics alone.

I'm with you on this. Leave the classics alone. Bridges and Damon did a terrible job. Hailee Steinfeld, on the other hand, did a wonderful (and better) job than the original.

As Patrick Swayze said "Opinions vary".

I enjoyed both movies and the book...multiple times. I understand that that True Grit is expected to receive a couple of Academy Awards.

I had a pair of that type of sandal (bought in Mexico in the 70's) wife threw them out also... I got mine a lot easier than you did yours...

Take care...

:)

Harley I shot at a guy standing in an opening holding an AK. He didn't see me and I had time to get a good sight picture on him. I carried all tracers in my magazines and it looked to me like some of them passed through him.

When I got over to where he had been standing the only thing there was a set of Ho Chi Minh sandals, you know the ones made from old truck tires and inner tubes. No blood, no trail, nothing but the sandals.

I brought the sandals home but the wife made me throw them away a few years ago. Made good shower shoes.

I think you had to go see the movie with an open mind. Very few movies turn out like the books they based on. I'm just glad that westerns are still being made.

One of my favorite parts of the new one is when Rooster is being cross examined. When he says that he moves back when backing up and then laughs at himself. Classic!

It was a good exchange between Rooster and the attorney :D The comment about burning in the fire and hogs moved him:evil:
Regards

Glad to see this thread I tried starting it right after I saw the movie and it was shot down by the moderator for being off topic.
It is enjoyable to read criticisms from our knowledgeable members on Hollywoods attempts.
I do like the John Wayne westerns but the tendency for the producers to cast the latest heart throb (Ricky Nelson, Fabian, James Caan, Glenn Campbell) irritated me. Hollywood was faithful to that in casting what's his face.....Matt Damon

I think Hollywood has to cast actors in movies that people want to see. The heart throbs bring more people to watch the movie that wouldn't otherwise.

I doubt if someone got paid off, maybe it was a good movie.

It has been mentioned about other awards...BIG name behind the last True Grit...

"True Grit" Executive Producers Steven Spielberg Robert Graf Produced by Scott Rudin Ethan Coen and Joel Coen Based on the novel by Charles Portis ...

:)
Somebody MUST have been paid off.
