Looking for an IWB for my G17. I have narrowed it down to the UCR or Alessi Talon. Does anyone have either, or both of these nice holsters. If so, can you tell me what you think of them.

I carry a 3913 in an old Alessi Talon Plus. The gun is very "packable" and the holster only adds to this. With the Talon clip over the waistband (not over the belt - the belt goes over the clip, and anchors it) it is solid, secure and comfortable.

I also have an Alessi Talon to carry my SIG P239. It is first class all the way with very good retention and release. As Walosi said the clip (talon) goes over the waistband, so you should be sure you wear trousers that have a firm waist band line. I wear bluejeans almost exclusively and it is never a problem with them.

Just a side comment. I have an Alessi Ghost, a small Talon clip IWB "pocket" that is probably the least expensive holster in the Alessi lineup. I also have a Field Master shoulder rig which, discounting the ostrich/megalodon/orangoutan exotics, is one of his most expensive. Quality of material and workmanship is exactly the same. Other makers do this as well, but not as well as Alessi, IMO. Yes, I am prejudiced, but it is the result of many good experiences with his holsters.

I carry my 5'' Gvmt Model

In Alessi Leather. VERY well Made. Mr Alessi is a fairly frequent poster on
the 1911 forum in the holster forum.

A few months back I acquired a UCR for 1911s, specifically a Kimber but it fits every 1911 I have. It is the most comfortable, concealable IWB holster I have owned and that includes models from Nelson, Sparks, Blade-Tech and Sidearmor. I'm not knocking any of those fine holster makers but the UCR from Threat Solutions is a better design for me. I'm planning on buying another one, just to be sure I always have one on hand and I'm trying to get him to make one for a revolver for me.

This is one case where appearance is reality. I want to treat people like Lou Alessi does, when I grow up.

I have been using Alessi leather (iwb) for about ten years of daily carry. (Colt OM all stainless) . As far as I'm concerned they put the others to shame. Well, not shame really, but are much lighter and better function and durability.:D

I have both--and both are very good. The UCR seems to hold the weapon a little more stable than the Talon, but I'm not really sure it will prove as durable as the Talon. It is the best (only comfortable) kydex (with offers a lot of advantages over leather when it's hot) IWB I've ever had. It's also the only IWB that's ever worked with a G26 for me. Right now, the Talon has been delegated the old holster box, and I'm using the UCR.

I'm not sure if mine are the Talon model. There is no indidcation of such on either of them. Just says " Alessi Holsters Inc. Buffalo, NY:what:

I've used an Alessi Talon Plus with my Glock 23 for over four years now. Great holster, and Lou Alessi is the archetypical natural gentleman. Highly recommended.

Before you buy the Alessi Talon, check out the Dual Talon. It rides better, more comfortable, and as well made as all Lou's other products.

Regards,

I've been to Lou's shop a couple of times and he is one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet. I have both the Talon Plus for my 239 and a CQC for my 229, they are both first rate holsters.

Ordered the alessi talon yesterday. Couldnt get the UCR people to answer there phones.

I am sure you will like the holster.

As for UCR, the one time I called them I got the owner on the phone right away. Maybe you can chalk that up to the holidays...

Enjoy.

I can't comment on the UCR's, not familiar with them.

I can say that after 10+ years of carrying an Alessi it has been great.

I had to send it back twice due to damage that I had done to it. Never any problems, came back repaired and cleaned. Only cost me the shipping. Again, the problem as me there, not poor quality.

If Alessi makes the holster for the carry that I want I'll go with them.

My 2 cents, even though you've already ordered. Wanted to give the man his due.

I looked at the UCR and I have to admit I am not big on synthetic holsters. Therefore I would opt for the Alessi CQC-I which is made of leather. Here is a picture I found of the UCR. Regards, Richard:D

The guy who makes the UCR is one of the only holster makers that has realized that molding the back of an IWB holster to the gun makes no sense. What I want against my body is a smooth surface that distributes the irregular contours of the gun. Also, the gun will tend to stay in one place if the back of the IWB is more like the paddle on that type of holster. The holster doesn't want to move if it is curved to fit the body instead of the gun. Just MO.

They don't seem to ans. Emails either.........?

Have been using Lou's Talon+'s for years and lately his W6DT.

True Old World Craftmanship aat an honest price.
The Talon+ has proven remarkably versatile along with being comfortable.

The guy who makes the UCR pretty much works alone. He is also a concealed carry instructor, and does Executive Protection, so he is busy pretty often, which is why Matt Kartozian from Custom Glock Racing sells the holsters as well.
