In Florida, I don't see this being endemic. More than 50% of the population is not white. More than 50% of police are not white. Are you trying to tell me that non-white police officers are conspiring to oppress other non-whites?

Which is more likely- a widespread conspiracy by white AND non-white officers, or a young man who hasn't yet learned to keep his foot out of the gas tank?

I am the first one to criticize cops when they are wrong, but if you are going to make an accusation like that, you are gonna have to do better than, "I got pulled over. I am black. That must mean that the cops are profiling."

That is faulty logic. Sorry.

OP: Just curious, what kind of car do you drive? Is there any reason that the vehicle would gain any more attention than any other vehicles on the road?

Ive had an inexperienced city cop draw his weapon on me and point it at me throuhg the car door when all I produced was my CCW license. The gun was in the glove box and my hands were on the steering wheel before and after i handed him the card. I feel your anger.

How did you respond? If it were me, he'd be known throughout not just the department, but city government in general. That kind of thing comes back to bite a cop the next time he uses his firearm, shoot or not, justified or not.

I was advised that If i diddnt want to be pulled over for harassments sake everytime I drive through that town that I not push it any further than his supervisor. This coming from a lawyer. This town is in my home county and there are no alternate routes to take, save for driving across 2 other counties on a secondary road.

And presumably, his supervisor did nothing.

That wouldn't work for me. I'd rig my car for surreptitious video and audio recording like that kid in Missouri did and see how things worked out for them.

But then I have a VERY bad reaction to bullies. Other people are different.

It's like being raped. Every time you DON'T report something like that, you enable the bad person to victimize someone else. If you don't report it, how does it ever get fixed? Also, establish that you have been harassed by the police, and you may find that the cops harass everyone but you afterwards, lest they have to answer for that behavior, AGAIN. If you were a cop, and your boss told you that a complaint had been filed against YOU for harassing a guy, and he didn't want to have anymore complaints like that, what do YOU think would be the smart thing to do?

"Follow anyone for a mile and you'll have some form of violation."

This is what I love, the police can basically stop you for anything they want. Because you were swerving, no signal, coasting stop sign, following too close, didn't dim high beams quick enough, etc, etc, etc. They have a million "reasons" they can use. Believe me, they know how to play that game better than anyone. Since it's your word against their's, they are allowed to stop. If you didn't do any of the above items, oh well, you can't prove it.

It's sad really in that I feel that's one of the top reasons people have an adversarial (sp?) view of the police. If 100% of the officers actually played by the rules 100% of the time, things would be much better for everyone. The police would have the support of probably 90% of the population and situations like the OP's would be nonexistent. Someone remarked that a few bad apples spoil the barrel. That's true, but at least around here, probably 1/4 to 1/3 of the barrel is already spoiled; from the lowest ranking to just short of the Chief. How is the public supposed to handle that?

Nobody liked the hall monitor either.
It doesn't stem from bad officers (although they make it worse) its because people do not like to be told they were wrong.
Unfortunately, until we as a society get to the point where we have a self-conviction not to do the wrong thing it will always be like this.

Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody else is looking.

Car has A LOT to do with it. I have a loud Interceptor Mustang for a daily driver, and my vanity plates have been run no less than 100 times in the last 4 years. That's just over once every two weeks. I check every now and then who's been running me on their MDT and its a laundry list long. New plates every year would change that, but I've never had any other officers tell me I've been run ... a lot. I'm sure they figure/know I'm on the throttle often. The funny part, no convictions, no standing tickets.

Loud bass ALWAYS gets my attention. It's like cat-nip.
