Lay off him guys, no he is not a redneck and no he was not drunk and for your verification purpuses, I WAS THERE WHEN HE DID IT. I saw it with my eyes he did not hit a stud and although what he did may not have been genuis he did it in a safe manner and in a controlled environment. As for all the badmouthing does that really help? He was asking for your help to see what course of action he has here and to forewarn others to a potential problem. You should offer any expierence and thank him for the info not bash him.
If it can't go through 1/2" drywall can you really trust it in a SHTF situation? Yes it is an isolated problem as far as we know but it is still a problem and I am glad I witnessed this because I will for sure not buy one of these. Learn from his mistakes, offer and advice and take it for what its worth. He knows it was silly, telling him so does nothing.

Act a little more High Roadish

Besides why would he really make that story up, it's somewhat embassing don't you think?

Louis, nobody was dumping that badly. I do thank you and your buddy for bringing this to our attention.

And for the record, in my younger days I punched a few holes in drywall. These days I don't let my temper get the best of me that much.

This doesn't sound like a normal thing to do with a shotgun but from what the original poster said, it wasn't really abuse. I think the gun should have been fine. I know my 870 would have been fine, it is built well and can take some punishment. From what he said, it was no more abuse than dropping the gun on it's end. While I would drop a gun for fun, I would be pissed if I dropped my 870 from chest height and it snapped in half.

I have never owned a Nova but I don't think I will in the future judging by the mixed reviews. I have seen mixed reviews on every POS gun. It doesn't matter how poorly a gun is made, there are some people that happy with them. I go for guns that you have to really search to find a bad word about. Rem 870 is one of those guns that just doesn't have many flaws. I have not seen many bad reports about this gun and it is probably the best selling shotgun ever!

although what he did may not have been genuis he did it in a safe manner and in a controlled environment.

You expect kudos for safely performing an inherently un-safe act?

Since you were there, did you do anything to try and dissuade him from this bit of foolishness or were you just enjoying the show?

Give the OP credit for fessing up to his youthful stupidity, most of us can plead guilty to some of that. But what else do you expect than confirmation that, as is often said, "stupid hurts and can cost you money too". Being ex-military myself I know many lasting "affectionate" nicknames result from bonehead moves. The wise man realizes he's in for some serious ribbing and takes it with good humor - trying to fight it always makes things worse.

As for the general quality of Nova's plastic stocks. It was already pointed out - you don't hear of many Nova stocks breaking when used in a more normal fashion. You should know that plastic stocks are not designed so much for SHTF. They are good for cutting down the weight of the gun a hunter might have to be hauling around the bushes and fields all day. You can also manufacture them cheaply in neat camoflage colors. Yes there are plastic stocks on tactical weapons but I bet those stocks are internally re-inforced specifically for the occasional hard contact needed. I also bet they aren't standard except on specifically tactical weapons.
