I am brand new to shooting. I would like to improve the trigger on my 10/22 but don't want to spend a lot of money on it. After some research it seems my 2 options are:
1. buy a drop-in volquartsen hammer kit ($40) or

2. a Tier 3 trigger job from brimstone gunsmithing (also $40 after shipping).

What would result in a better/smoother trigger? Would the difference be significant? Going the brimstone route would entail a 4 week wait, which I don't mind if it's worth it :). I can use my Marlin60 in the meantime.

BTW... I only use this weapon for target shooting. I have no intention of hunting. It's just that I tried my brother's new rifle with an accutrigger and i really liked it.

I know its possible to lower the #'s yourself but stoning the parts myself makes me nervous. I'd be afraid to end up with an unsafe weapon. I do feel I can handle the drop-in hammer assembly though.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you could always take a stab at doing it yourself, and if it didn't turn out, buy a replacement hammer. do the job and them assemble and bang the gun around. if the hammer doesn't drop you're probably safe. I didn't know a whole lot about what I was doing the first time I did one, and it's not hard. you can even go nuts and install a set screw and a do the jb weld trick and get a sub 2lb creep and over travel free pull with minimal effort. But then I am a penny pinching fool with more time than money. I used a belt sander and some knife sharpening stones on mine.

I put a Volquartsen hammer pack in a brand new 10/22. It dropped the pull to about 2.5# as advertised but there was a ton of gritty creep. I called and their answer was to fire a couple of hundred rounds to break it in. The next day I ordered a complete Tier 1 trigger assembly from Brimstone. There is absolutely no comparison. Save up your beer money and go with Brimstone. You will not regret it.

Tier 1 is more than i am willing to spend on a trigger job. Id rather get the archangel stock for that price. Ive been wanting that for a while now.

Any idea how the tier 3 trigger job would compare to the volquartsen hammer?

Thx so much for the responses :)

IMHO the Volquartzen hammer alone is a half step. I recommend the spring kit with it. I didn't have the "gritty creep" problem with mine.
