Want to see a really old 1911?

C411 would be in 1912, the first year of production. Probably fairly early in the production cycle. There are a few parts that aren't correct, most noticably the stocks and the hammer.

Very cool! Thanks for posting those pictures!!! So, when you saw it at the show did you know what you were looking at (ie you're a 1911 aficionado)? Or did you just get "lucky"? ;)

I understood exactly what it was, so did it's owner. He'd had it at the show the last three times, so it wasn't the first time I had looked at it. I just had to wait until the seller was a bit less enthusiastic about owning it before I could swoop in.

now THAT is a 1911 i can dig! i really like the slightly beaten up look to it. makes it look like the gun wishes it be known that it is made of STEEL! :)

could you take a picture straight on from the side? the angle shots are neat, but they do funny things to perspective.

Stokes: glad to know you were you were both able to come to an agreement on it. It sure looks like a wonderful piece!

I saw an 1943 Remington Rand that had that same kind of "look" to it as far as the finish is concerned.

Well, I'm embarassed to say how much I paid for it. The way the seller acted, he was probably embarassed by how cheap he let it go. I think I'll save us both the humility of revealing how much scrap iron is fetching these days!

Far from it! He thought it was worth more than my car! I thought it was quite a bit less. We compromised in the middle.

Granted, my car isn't anything special!

I maybe wrong here, but didn't the 1911 originally come with a arched mainspring housing and long trigger. The 1911A1 changed to the flat housing and short trigger. Did the civilian models have the lanyard loop?
Although you have a very nice old pistol, I don't think it's all original which would faciliate some haggling over the price.

That is one cool mamma-jamma manual safety.

Why would modern variations be plaqued with ugly safeties, when the old ones were so cool lookin? Providing it's original of course.

That's one fine chunka' iron there Stokes, nice job. (even if it is a Colt... :D )

it's the other way around. the original 1911's had the flat mainspring housing and long trigger, and the A1 introduced the frame scallops behind the trigger, the short trigger and the arched mainspring housing.

My first plan is to go shoot it. I'll put some rounds down range with it this Sunday.

After that, I'm contemplating sending it to Doug Turnbull. I'm not really sure as of yet, as I concerned I'll have soooo much money invested in this gun that I'll have to list it as an asset in my mortgage application! If my money gets too tight (I'm trying to close a real estate deal this month), I might have to sell it. Oh well, it will be nice while it lasts!

First of all you car (truck) is at least worth the cost of a new mirror.
Second of all that pistol is an Air Soft. :neener:
