The first one is more ignorant than the second....The first one is a 9MM fired in a .40.
The second one is an example of the guppy belly brass from a seriously unsupported chamber.

Both these statements are true. The first one is more ignorant than the second....
The rim is held by the extractor against the breechface. The case isn't head spacing on the case mouthI'm surprised a 9mm would fire in a 40.
It gets your attention, because generally, it will sound like a weak report and will not cycle the slide back. So, you tap and rack and hopefully you notice the severely expanded case. If not, then you fire again, and go through the same motions. -- I've seen a buddy of mine do it on one of my Glocks (G22 firing 9MM). After a couple I came to look and then we noticed that he had loaded 9MM in the .40. I still have a couple of those cases on my bench somewhere. This is just some of the weird stuff I find. I bet it would get your attention when it went off.

The extractor will hold it against the force of the fireing pin ... usually but not always , depends on the extractor .I'm surprised a 9mm would fire in a 40.
I have heard many (on the internet lore) say they fire .40 out of a 10mm chamber on purpose…The extractor will hold it against the force of the fireing pin ... usually but not always , depends on the extractor .
So much for headspacing on the cartridge mouth !!!

Yes, why 40-9mm conversion barrels work fine without changing extractors. The rim is held by the extractor against the breechface. The case isn't head spacing on the case mouthI'm surprised a 9mm would fire in a 40.
Yes, I want Glock 20 SF (10mm) to shoot 40S&W reloads as I have plenty of 5 gallon buckets of brass and 155/165/180 gr bullets (10mm brass is harder to come by).I have heard many (on the internet lore) say they fire .40 out of a 10mm chamber on purpose…

And 40S&W could fire in 45ACP also.
And, 9MM will fire in 45 ACP as well. --- ask me how I know that one too!And 40S&W could fire in 45ACP also.
