I was running some errands today, one of which was renewing my carry license (which was a pleasant experience and took all of $23 and 20 minutes for 5 more years) and I decided to visit an area gun shop that I patronize only on an occassional basis. Usually I do my archery business there because it's one of the better stocked shops in the area for that and because they are so over priced in the firearms arena it is ridiculous......today I decided to browse through their plentiful stock of long guns that are out in the open for all to fondle. I do appreciate the fact that they allow handling.
The very first rack I approached had a nice looking SAR-1 AK style rifle with a tan folding stock. The stock was butt ugly but did make the rifle catch my eye. I picked it up, checked it out, looked at the attached tag and damn near fell over.............first of all it was priced at an expected ridiculous price, being $399.00 but what almost made me exclaim my disbelief aloud was that it was being sold as a Romanian SKS! It was listed as a Romarms
7.62x39 SKS
I am still shaking my head as I write this post because this is at a shop where it is family run and the owner has been in business for at least 30 years, even area police officers do business with him. I was going to politely point this out, but usually the husband and wife are so damn gruff that I didn't bother. They also had a store full of guys and I didn't want to embarrass anyone.
Maybe I am making too much of it in my own warped opinion, but I did wonder if anyone else has picked up on that since that rifle made it on the rack. Probably a minor mix up in writing the tag, but it looks like ignorance and shouldn't happen in a gun store.
