I see threads on various boards complaining about the illegal Philadelphia gun control bills that were introduced, but as of yet I havent seen anyone stating that they are doing anything about it. I hope that those of you who are complaining are also doing some calling and writing!!!

Here is a draft of my letter, it is not in finished form and will be edited quite a bit before mailing, I also have to make sure I have included all the introduced bills. I will also be making phone calls this week. For the record I do NOT live or work in Philadelphia, but that really isnt important. Now it's your turn to share.

To XXXXXXXXX:

RE: Illegal Philadelphia Gun Control Bills

I am writing you regarding the following illegal bills proposed by the city of Philadelphia: Bill No. 070345, Bill No. Bill No. 070346, Bill No. 070347. I am very disappointed that the elected officials governing Philadelphia are conducting criminal activities by enacting several gun control bills that directly violate Pennsylvania state law; this is no different than if I violated state law simply because I disagreed with it. The elected officials of Philadelphia should be held to a higher standard than the “ordinary” citizen and should be immediately removed from office and prosecuted for intentionally violating state law.

I assume I don’t have to remind you that this is not only a gun control issue, this is an issue of the violation of rights as set forth in the United States and Pennsylvania Constitution, as well as a direct violation of several other Pennsylvania statues. These bills are absolutely no different than if Philadelphia decided to limit free speech or freedom of religion, yet these criminal politicians remain unchecked for their crimes against the state. I demand that something be done about this immediately.

Including myself, there are five members of my immediate family who are of voting age and we refuse to support any elected official who does not vehemently oppose this blatant disregard of state law. I promise you that we will be closely following this issue, and we will not vote for you or any member of your party unless we can be sure that you will make it your first priority to put a stop to this and prosecute any officials that insist on violating state law.

Sincerely,

XXXXX XXXXXX

If we wait, we have already lost. Why would you wait until things got worse. By not doing anything you are in effect telling Philadelphia that this is ok, and you as a subject of PA will sit by while they do as they please. Doing nothing is just as bad as supporting these bills.

Well, we had a small meeting last night. It got planned really quick and the word may not have been spread effectively. Cam announced it on his show Friday night and Hunt Cast posted a link here. I apologize for such short notice but felt that something had to happen fast. I would love to discuss our findings and plan of action with you folks. I can open the chat room anytime so let me know when a good time for you is. You can email me or respond here. I will check back throughout the evening. [email protected]

Also I will be at the following link at about 9PM tonight

I will be on the road tonight from 8pm - 12 am, but any other evening this week other than wednesday works for me.

I would point out that it is not illegal for Philadelphia to pass a law inconsistent with PA state law. Such a law would appear to be unenforcable though. However, it might be necessary for some brave soul(s) to test the law to get it before the courts.

In the whole you are right BUT, PA has specific laws already on the books that expessly prohibit Local Govts from enacting Gun Control laws of their own.

JL, I will be available in that chat room every night and I also sent you an e-mail.

I wrote to my state congressman and senator. Jane Orie responded with a zealous pro-2nd message like she always does but confused what I was writing about with HB 760. When I pointed out this was different, she said she was going to look into in and Philly should just enforce existing laws. It appears this isn't well-known outside our community.

Heh, heh.. heh...

I'd do it. Gotta get enough money in the gun fund to buy two guns in less than a month - then all I gotta do is find myself a philly FFL!! :-D

Or, could I buy from two different dealers? hm.

Let me be a solely-politically minded bastard for a moment, worthy of the Brady campaign...

Philly's crime problem is well beyond guns, not that you can tell looking at it from the news articles. Permitting guns won't really have an effect. The news will then continue to harp about how gun laws are too lax, about how gun violence is ruining the city, and anti-gunners will have more ammunition in their fight against guns.

On the flip side, if they institute an absolute ban against guns like we've seen in DC, crime will predictably get worse. The news will continue to harp about gun violence, but it'll be evident to everyone that legal guns are not the problem. Philly has nothing to do with gun control except in that some people choose to ignore everything but their pet cause. If we make it about gun control, we're going to look bad because crime WILL get worse regardless. A political win in Philly means a PR loss overall.
