Secondary to my 12ga double barrel hammer gun and SCAR are the following handguns.
I have a S&W 642 with CTC laser in a Bianchi Lightening 55 holster under my pillow, along side the bed on the night stand, right next to my Surefire Z2 LED CombatLight is a Kimber Warrior with a X-200B (it throws a much wider beam that I prefer inside) Surefire with the DG switch. In the draw is a Beretta Vertec with a X-200 SureFire without the DG switch attached yet and it has the Beretta Factory 20 round SWAT magazine, it gives me ready to grab options. The springs in that magazine will hold up the back of your F150 pickup truck.
My Go bag, (just referring to handgun stuff, not shotgun/rifle stuff in the same bag, which is an active shooter Maxpedition bag without the external mag pouches) 3 additional 1911 magazines, and two Beretta 92 Mec-Gar 20 round magazines, additional flashlights, batteries, small Boo Boo first aide kit too. This hangs over the hammer gun's barrels right next to the bed. It contains both shot gun ammo and a couple of magazines for the SCAR too. Any of my "ready" go to guns have back up ammo in the Go Bag (38spl for the J frame in a couple of speed loaders, a couple of magazines for the Ruger LCP too. (the Go Bag should not be confused with the Bug out bag or BOB for my guns if I must leave the house "heavy".)
If I am in my house Dressed I will most likely have my Springfield Professional on my hip, with one additional magazine. If I am in a "plastic" mood it will most likely be a S&W M&P 9mm Full size.
If I am not dressed, it could anyone of several handguns, but always in what I label one of my "house" holsters. Most often either an Old Alessi Talon plus, or a Don Hume M715 that protects the gun and wood furniture from each other. 75% of the time it is still a 1911.
The 1911, for me, is the handgun I have considerable combat experience with. Secondary to a "K" frame S&W. In a fight go with the weapons you know best, but a hand gun is ALWAYS secondary, always. NO wrong answers for which sidearm is your secondary home defense weapon though.
Good luck.
