Interested in a carbine mostly for just plinking, target shooting, etc... I've looked at the Beretta Cx4 Storm a few times. seems to be a pretty good option. What is a fun carbine to shoot? I just want a few ideas of some to look at. I want to broaden my choices. If possible maybe leave a link to a site that has pictures and info. I do have a lever action ruger carbine in .44 mag and that is a blast to shoot. In fact I shot my first deer with that rifle. anyways any input is apprectiated.

I'll put a Kel-Tec Sub2000 on the table. Simple. Not a lot of money. Works well. I have mine in 9mm so ammo doesn't break the bank. Only real downside is it's a pistol caliber carbine which also happens to be one of the biggest reasons it's so much fun.

For the pure fun factor the High-Point 995. Great gun great price THE BEST customer service should you need it. AND you can buy a LOT of 9mm with the $$$ you saved.

How about a mosin-nagant M38 or M44 carbine :D

Cheaper than the others, and much more impressive.

Do they make a .50 cal in a carbine??

Sorry....

I agree with the Mosin Nagant, cheap price on the guna and ammo.

An old Mauser, not that expensice and very cheap 8mm ammo like the 7.62X54R stuff.

A Marlin in either .357 or 30-30. Both are a lot of fun but the ammo for the .357 will cost you a lot less than the 30-30.

A WASR AK-47 is fun too and the ammo is cheap. (and you will need cheap ammo too because 500 rounds is just a start!! :neener: )

I have both the M38 and M44 carbines and they are "fun" to shoot. Fun because the guns themselves are inexpensive, the ammo runs ~$0.10 cents per round for military surplus. The only drawbacks: the recoil is "heavy" and now that I look back after one day of shooting with a heavy winter coat on my shoulder felt like it had been bruised. I purchased a limbsaver slip on recoil pad and it worked very well the time i tried it. The other drawback, the trigger pull is strange according to my father who after trying it was taken back by what he noted as a delay.

Now how do they shoot as far as accuracy? Well all I can say is that I am not that good of a shooter yet. These are my first rifles, and I am still tense when firing them. At the local range, in ~15-25*F weather, I was not hitting the target first at 100 yards. As I pushed more rounds through it I was able to get my accuracy closer, coming out to a about a 10" window, down to a 6" window. So they shoot well and seem dependable. Mind you these are with the stock sights, Czech 1963 ammunition, an un-experienced (and freezing) shooter who is still tense.

If you would like some information on these weapons:

Hope this helps.

I too have a Hi-Point with ATI stock and a cheap reflex-type red dot. Not only is it my most fun gun, it's the favorite of anyone I've let shoot it. The red dot lets even first timers shoot it accurately, and there's basically no recoil for them to deal with, as well as how the carbine length barrel makes it the quietest firearm I own. And I can buy and outfit another just like it and still not have as much tied up in both as I would have spent on a bone stock Beretta. So far it's shot every type of ammo I've tried in it without fail, too.

.30 Carbine is more expensive than 9mmP, but the round is more useful if you ever need it for something other than plinking.

Most fun?

50 Beowulf!!!:D

A 400Gr, 50cal slug coming out of a 16"barrel at 1900fps... 10 of those as fast as you can pull the trigger...

FUN = BEOWULF

Calico...

Hi folks. I've been lurking here for a little while but I have to put my $.02 in.

Consider the Calico carbines. They're as rugged as any that have been suggested here but they have the advantage of the rugged roller-locked action and 50 or 100 round magazines. If you know anyone who has one, get them to let you try it. The cheap surplus +p+ 9mm machine gun ammo works great and leaves the barrel well over 1300 fps. Ambidextrious safety and downward ejection (brasscatcher available) makes it good for lefties too. They list for about $700 and can often be found used for $600 or less.

Take a look at a Marlin 1894C (.38/.357) lever action.
These are really sweet litle rifles to plink with...

Also, I'd look at some .22's. Fun to plink with and cheap to shoot!

The Carbine is the most fun.

The Kel Tec .223 and AK pistols aren't strictly speaking Carbines but they will do the job of a carbine and definitely are fun.:D

I prefer my Rossi 92 in .357 magnum, a lever gun. Different strokes I guess. Only center fire semi auto rifle I own is a couple of Norinco SKSs I got cheap 15 years ago and a big 8mm Mauser chambered Hakim battle rifle I got for eighty bucks. I've always liked the M1 Carbine, but it's totally worthless for any practical use, so I never bought one. All my guns except for the cheap milsurps, are hunting guns. I got no use for tacticool. The SKS paratrooper carbine is fun at the range, though, and only cost me 115 bucks sans the folding stock and crap I put on it for fun. It's my one concession to tacticool. But, to be honest, I like shooting my Rossi more. Guess it's the cowboy cool factor. :D

Put my vote in for the Moisin's. Not only cheap to buy and cheap to shoot............but that fireball!!!!!!!! Now that's good evening fun stuff.

Oh yes. Everyone I've seen fire one gets a big grin. I love mine. No recoil, comfortable, not noisy...I suppose it might get boring to keep putting holes in the same place again and again. :D

I second or third the m1 carbine. That rifle popped my Assault Rifle cherry and was quite possible the most enjoyable rifle I have ever owned. Killed a few coyotes and one deer with it as well.
