S&W 9mm by the bed, 16" barrel Mossberg 500 12 ga with #4 Duck and Pheasant loads in the cabinet about 6 feet from the bed. When I was a Deputy Sheriff we recommended a 12 gauge pump shotgun loaded with #4 Duck & Pheasant loads for home defense, at close range it causes incredible destruction, but it doesn't penetrate walls very well, so they are safer and don't tend to exit the house.
