What is the point of a .600 caliber handgun?

Archie beat me to it.

A big lead slug, even at a "mere" 600 or so feet per second can be very effective on soft skinned animals - on four or two legs.

A refined modern version, albeit not quite in the same class, might be the .50 GI pistol.

First time I saw a Desert Eagle, I said to myself, totally ridiculous. But seeing [in movies] how they perhaps operate, i.e. the action, think it was meant for me. Seems the action is slightly slower than the normal semiauto, and this l like. So since I now have the hots for a Desert Eagle, the possibility of a .600 is just fabulous...I can wait to see if it will be available and will not make the absurd decision to even think now about buying the available DE, and again put off a decision that I really do not want to make :D . Again, you may be talking about a revolver, but you dream in your colors...I will dream in mine.

I like the idea of REALLY small pistols with REALLY big calibres,
.50AE derringers etc...
or
45-70 derringers
but a .600...
Now we're talking:)

LOL, the gas powered blender: "Be the Life of the Party, Get more Dates!"

Whoever said that the American female wasn't fickle? ("But, he has such a cool blender.")

As to monster handguns, isn't Freedom wonderful? (Same thing for the gas powered blender.)

Lancaster .700 OU Howdah Pistol

Would not a 50 BMG pistol, though, ban the ammo for it (at least in the USA) as 'armor piercing'?

.600,
.600,going once
.600, going twice

Do we have any higher bidders?????

Ahhh, thank you Mr HSO for that kind bid for .700,

Do we have any takers at .800???

Why not?

Sure I don't plan on tiger hunting anytime soon but the historical joy of owning a howdah would be unfathommable... or a modern equivalent.

After all, it's really just a sawed off shotgun for all practical purposes... but not muton-chopped "defender of the realm" would stoop to bringing a fowling piece on a tiger hunt would he? Nay, citizen he'd pop by Westly Richards for a proper handgun to prevent his being unseamed nave to nose by aforementioned striped beatie.

Let's face it, a Howdah doesn't even need sights... it's designed to be used at spitting distance. Sort of the ultimate derringer when your foe weighs 500 pounds and has claws and teeth and a very bad attitude.

I don't see why T/C or H&R hasn't made one. Many of the originals are black powder muzzle loaders... we want a modern cartridge firing 'tiger' pistol. As someone pointed out, while tigers are on the decline, we may indeed face surly giant robots soon.

Did anyone say "So you can make .600 Cal holes?" yet?

I saw a couple muzzleloaders the Emperor of Japan presented to Sam Colt. Both about 20" barrels pistol grip only, no shoulder stock. One was .98 Cal, one was 1.00 cal. The barrel thickness had to be at least 1/2" but it's been a while since I've seen them. Friggin Atheneum in Hartford won't show the collection again but I think they're letting it travel.

Isn't there some restriction that .600 is the biggest hand gun round from the BATF? Maybe it might just be California?

Californial would ban a .600 pistol though, someone might mount a long range scope on it, with a bi-pod and shoot air planes down :banghead:

I heard something about .600 being the biggest, because of law, this was at the Combat Range one time, but zoned the conversation out, because I just own little .45 acp.

I'll have to pass on that round!

Too much powder needed for reloading...

...come to think about it though, 0.600" holes could be an advantage in Bullseye Centerfire:D

I wonder how long my Ultradot will survive on this thing!?!

I'm surprised that no one tries to make smaller weapons though. Can you picture the .08 caliber needle handgun? Shoot a 100rd mag of needles going 5000fps.

Not quite that small or fast, but check out http://www.swissminigun.com/

Let's forget about stepping it up and stepping it up.

Why not just start with the huge and insane so we don't waste time and money lusting after all the little step by step progression upgrades?

What am I talking about? Let's build an Abrams Hand Canon!

120mm sawed off smooth bore single action, single shot hand canon.

I wonder what a 6" long 120mm sawed off Abrams barrel would weigh - the cartridge would be tough enough to hold with two hands outstretched, recoil MIGHT be a wee bit of a problem too. Not to mention the length of the breach - just a few minor problems to work out.

Can you imagine the reloading bench and press for that sucker?

It's just a trendy, macho thing that will eventually go away!! The cost of ammo for these monsters are ridiculous!! Anything over 50 caliber is totally overkill!!

That video of the fat guy getting smacked with his own gun completely made my day.
I knew he was in trouble when I saw his stance & grip. I can almost hear him say "Hey y'all, hold my beer and watch this!"

Reminds me of the proper use of a howdah gun: hand it to the tiger and let him shoot it. The recoil will throw him clear. (I think I stole that from Joh Ross)

That wasn't his gun:what:

He was the range the officer and asked if he could have a go:neener:
