What is your One Caliber

My one caliber would have to be without a doubt Weatherby 300 Mag. Reason being is it will shoot as flat with 140gr, as it will 155gr, 180gr, 190gr at 250 yds . Which is all I can get out of the backyard. No scope adjustments is nice and when I go to shoot at paper it really does not matter which box I pick up to use. I know there are others that can do the same, I just like my Weatherby's.

Shooting coyotes up to mule deer; I think a 270 WSM would be great; if I shot a lot of coyotes and only a couple of mule deer hunts; I'd might drop to the 270 win; which should be more of a pleasure to shoot. Although the WSM with 130 grain bullets Has pretty mild recoil in my opinion.

My primary round for stockpiling is 7.62X39. Longer-range calibers would be a waste with my old eyes.

Same caliber my Grandfather shot...my Dad shot...I shoot and now our Daughter shoots.

The war winning...match winning...belly filling...30-06.

one cal for hunting would be 270win ,

but an all around gun would have to be a gun and cal that would work for home defense, big game, small game, something you can load hot or load down , , so a bolt gun is out for home defense (I'd hate to give up my 270's :( ) any thing that would go through my house and hit my neighbors is out , for home defense it would have to be an autoloader with a big heavy slow bullet yet it needs to have enough bang to drop a deer at 100 yards , huummmm... what could that be ?.......

44mag Carbine :D 200 cast RN for home defense and 240 SWC or 240JHP for hunting ,

The one caliber is .30; the one cartridge is .30-06. It will punch paper at 1000 yards, turn chucks into red mist, kill Moose, and if one is stout of heart will take the great bears. What more could you need? :D

For me it would be 30-06 followed very closely by the 308.

Same here. I have a preference for the 30-06 because I have a Springfield 1903-A3 and intend to get a Garand. But I also really like 308 and consider it to be a great round too.

.308...lots of other calibers mentioned, good luck finding any in a bad time. the .308 is everywhere, doubt you will find the 6.5 x 55 or any AI calibers just anywhere.

I like.......

.........short to medium range shooting. So I'm partial to 7.62 X 39. It suits my purposes in Tioga,Pa where are camp ground is. Also suitable for the rural area I live at.

Back after Sandy Hook, you were hard pressed to find .308/7.62x51mm NATO, while there were plenty of 30-06, .243, .270, 25-06, 7mm-08, and 30-30. I used to buy into the thought of ".308 is everywhere" until the panic hit, and taking observations from that told me the big military cartridges were the first to fly off of the shelves.

This somewhat persuaded me to the 30-06, besides the fact that it performs better with 180+ grain bullets at longer ranges.

A tough question.

If I were to choose a caliber/ cartridge based on what I shoot the most, and is a must have for me, it would be the 22 lr.

From there it's wide open. Make mine a 30.06

Since I don't live in Alaska, I don't think a brown bear is much of a threat to me.
Having stocked up on .270 Win stuff when Bill Clinton was in office, I am stuck, but if I were not stuck with .270 win, I would choose 30-06 because it is the most versatile round ever devised..... down loaded for squirrel/rabbit or up loaded for moose or the largest bison. Anything on the north American Continent can be taken with this round. If I could only have one rifle, it would definitely be a 30-06! Thankfully, that is not the case, and I don't ever expect it will be, despite any false flag, mass shootings, which are orchestrated.:neener::neener:

I'd probably go with 30-06. It is easy to find, easy to reload, long brass life, easy to find cast 30 cal bullets. Wide range of bullet weights.

Yes Razorback,
That is exactly what I'm talking about!
2 Grns. of red dot pushing a OOB shot ( about 65 gr.) will be sufficient for rabbit and squirrel.
220 Gr. projectile of the right type will take Elk, Moose, and all types of North
American Bison. With the right Rifle, providing positive follow up shots, it will take on anything North America can throw at it. (Though it may not be optimum)

.308 for same reasons listed in first post.

.223 is tempting also because of its size/weight you can carry much more
