We lock them up all the time. They just don't stay in very long
I have to wonder how many of those "felon in possession" perps are going to spend any time in prison.
Typically a felon firearm possession charge is icing. It gives something lawyers can plea bargain with. Slide the possession charge off the table and you get out a few years earlier if you confess you did the armed robbery or whatnot. To make matters worse, prison systems that are far over max capacity at their facilities will do pressure releases of inmates. Send criminals off to rehab or probation well before the sentence is done. I sent off an inmate to prison for armed robbery with a sentence of 12 years. I saw him less than 6 months later because he sweet talked his way into drug rehab.

Bring back hard labor and chain gangs. Let them live in tents in the desert.
It's polices like this that lead to what just happened in Philly
I think 1976 is correct in assuming the basis of the problem is an inadequate penal system. Judges are told to keep sentences short as it illegal to put 3 people in a cell. They also have to be fed a healthy diet and get plenty of gym equipment for exercise. Free medical care etc, etc.
After being around more than 4 decades I have learned: A lot of people have guns, a lot don’t, The ones that you assume don’t and carry without most people knowing. I am very familiar with the Dfw area. A lot of women like their guns and don’t advertise they carry.Granted, it was largely the DFW area but I dated a girl down there once and not a single of her friends had even shot a gun, let alone owned one.

All that I deal with are semiautomatic. With all the other guns we end up collecting about 2000 or more a year.Gunny, you're updating these posts about every 2 weeks. It is amazing how many guns you are taking off the streets. Do you have an estimate on what the annual total of seized firearms for your dept?
