What Should I Do With a Holster-Worn Glock 17?

The obvious answer is to put MORE holster wear on it.

Hah, exactly.

Another "It's a Glock!" post here.

I own pretty guns that I'm careful to not scratch or mar, and those receive some tender love and polishing on occasion. Like a finely tuned precision tool, they're a joy both to use and care for.

My Glock on the other hand is the pipe wrench of my toolkit.

It's ugly and worn and it's difficult to get excited about it - but it shoots well and goes bang every time. The last thing on my mind is how it looks.

It's a Glock!

A few years ago, I bought an ex-VA Beach Sheriff's Department Glock 19 from Summit Gun Broker.

It had a minor amount of finish wear. I simply didn't care, since I was going to be carrying it, just like that Sheriff's Deputy did, and would add my own wear to it.

I did put in a 3.5lb. Ghost connector and did the "$0.25 trigger job".

Nonono! The right answer is "Put more rounds through it."
That too, of course.

There may be prettied-up Glocks out there, but as far as I'm concerned they're utility guns, and one with wear is a great way to avoid the "what holster won't wear my gun? question that keeps coming up for some reason. (hint, the answer involves a large dose of "get over it")

Given my minimal investment, I've kicked around the idea of just doing a cosmetic upgrade of some sort. The first thing that comes to mind is Duracoating the slide, maybe swapping in a new/upgraded trigger spring, etc. Or, I could just leave it as-is and use it as an upgrade to my current nightstand pistol.

Any opinions? Ideas?

if you're looking at having the slide finished and the action up-dated/graded, i'd send it back to Glock.

they'll refinish the slide for $40 and do the up-grades for free...you do have to pay postage
